FBC Carthage E-News
March 9, 2020
Good Morning,
Wow! The difference a week makes. As I write this E-News, I reflect on the past
week’s destruction and devastation. Lives
lost. Property destroyed. People forever changed. This has been a week of great horror in how
quickly a storm can cause such damage.
It has also been a week of seeing people reach out to those in
need. Thousands of volunteers, including
many of you, have gone to the people in need to help sort through what is left
of their possessions, to carry meals, to run chainsaws, to pull brush, and just
to be there. Thank you to everyone for
their compassion and care.
It is also a reminder of
how quickly the things of this earth can be taken away. A house that was here yesterday is gone
today. I am reminded of the scripture in Matthew
6:19-21, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust
destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for
yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where
thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there
your heart will be also.” Make sure you
are laying up treasures in heaven, not just here on the earth. The things of this world can be so quickly
lost.
Continue to pray for the
recovery and restoration work being done.
There will be opportunities to volunteer and help for weeks and months
to come. Pray for the families affected
by the storm, especially those who lost family and friends.
You may wonder how you can
help out in a physical way? We received
an offering yesterday for Tennessee Baptist Disaster Relief work that goes to
help in all the affected areas. You can
give toward that offering. You can also
bring supplies such as water, gloves, cleaning supplies to the church or the
New Salem Association office. The Stone Baptist
Association has set up a registration and information site for volunteers who
would like to go and help personally. To
register through Disaster Relief or through Samaritan’s Purse go to: http://bit.ly/putnamstrongvolunteer.
