FBC Carthage E-News
March 16, 2020
Good Morning,
Wow! The difference a week makes. Two weeks in a row that we have said those
words. The previous week was the
tornado, this past week we have gone from hearing about a virus called Corona
to outright panic and shutdown of many parts of our society. This is a time unlike any I have lived
through as fear and extra precautions have cancelled all major events, closed
down colleges, restricted travel, and emptied shelves of toilet paper and hand
sanitizer.
In the midst of this
crisis, please remember to pray and turn to the Lord. The government, medical profession, and
Wal-Mart are not our saviors. There is
One who cares for us and holds the world in His hand. We call Him Father. Run to Him before you run to Wal-Mart. Cry out to Him before you go to
Facebook. Bring your needs to Him before
you look to the government. I go to my
favorite verse in this crisis, as I do in every crisis, and remind myself “Trust
in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own
understanding; In all your ways
acknowledge Him, And He shall direct
your paths.” That is my “go-to” verse; what’s
yours? Now is a good time to identify at
least one verse and cling to it.
Here are the precautions
we are taking as a church as it regards our services:
-In addition to our
regular cleaning routine, we will be taking extra cleaning precautions by
wiping down surfaces, door knobs, and pews with disinfectant.
-We are encouraging
everyone to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds prior to coming to the
services and after using the restrooms.
-We will have bottles of
hand sanitizer at the entrances for you as you come in and as you go out.
-During these weeks of
caution, we also ask that handshaking be replaced by fist bumping. You may not have a concern but those around
you do. Please, remember the bump.
-If you are feeling ill,
and especially if you are running a temperature, stay home and watch the
services on DTC or on Facebook Live. (I
had a slight temperature yesterday afternoon and stayed home last night. It was down by bedtime and good this morning. Thank you to Matt and Brad for covering for
me. We all have to practice caution for
the health of others.)
-For our older members and
those with compromised health concerns, this may be a time to limit your exposure
and join us by way of DTC or Facebook Live.
During this new crisis,
let us continue to pray for those involved in the tornado recovery and
restoration work. Pray especially for
the families affected by the storm, especially those who lost family and
friends.
The RightNow Video of
the Week is actually two different videos.
They both are looking at what the Bible says about fear and worry. The first is a Bible study with R.C. Sproul
that drives in deep to find God’s hope for anxiety. Check it out:
https://www.rightnowmedia.org/Content/Series/594?episode=5
The second gives a much
more engaging, youthful, and sometimes humorous treatment of the same issue, “What
are you afraid of?” Check it out: https://www.rightnowmedia.org/Content/Series/358156?episode=3
Remember, you have to

video resource and all the videos are provided free of charge as a gift from
