Happy Valentine’s Week!

Just a “heads-up” that this Friday is Valentine’s Day.  It is important to express your love to those closest to you.  The commandment Jesus left His disciples was to love one another.  He said that they would be known for their love for each other.  Let me ask you, are you known as a loving person?  Does compassion and care for others define who you are?  Jesus has made it plain that love is the important characteristic in the lives of His followers.  This is the week to show that love for spouse, children, family, and friends.  Jesus even commands us to love our enemies and those who mistreat us and slander our names.  That kind of love comes only from a heart controlled by the Holy Spirit of God.

It was great to be back in the services yesterday.  There is something missing when I am out for a whole week.  Thank you for your prayers during my fight with the flu.

We will have a special Couple’s Valentine Dinner this Thursday, February 13 at 6:00 PM at Rojas Restaurant.  We have the back room reserved for our group.  Come and enjoy a great meal, good fellowship and an entertaining program centered around marriage.

In the service yesterday, I referenced the Kansas City Chief’s lineman, Stefan Wisneiwski.  Here is a great Sports Spectrum interview that shares his story of his faith in Jesus and the strength he had during a year-long period of being without a job.  https://sportsspectrum.com/sport/football/2020/01/30/chiefs-stefen-wisniewski-trying-season-god-allowed-test-bring-him-glory/

We also referenced Pastor John Piper’s article “Don’t Waste Your Cancer,” written the night before his cancer surgery several years ago.  This resource may be an encouragement to you or someone you know who is battling a disease of time of suffering.  Check it out:  https://www.desiringgod.org/articles/dont-waste-your-cancer

One more resource for those dealing with suffering and sorrow.  Here is a collection of more than 100 Christian songs that give strength and point to Jesus in your suffering.  https://worship-songs-resources.worshiptogether.com/nav/theme/sufferingtrials

In honor of Valentine’s Day, our RightNow Video of the Week is “A Lifelong Love.”  Marriage speaker, Gary Thomas believes couples often settle for too little when it comes to marriage. We fail to understand how deeply God cares about our spouse. We diminish our need to not only understand what biblical love really is, but also to become a people who excel at it. We let ourselves drift apart instead of making the daily choices to grow closer together.  Whether your marriage needs a complete makeover, a touch up, or just a new purpose, this video series based on Gary's book, A Lifelong Love, promises to set your relationship on an entirely new dimension. Check out the first session called “The Magnificent Obsession:” https://www.rightnowmedia.org/Content/Series/198823?episode=1

Remember, if you haven’t signed-up for RightNow Media you can do that right now.  Also, you can freely share the resource with your family and friends.  Simply go to https://www.rightnowmedia.org/Account/Invite/cfbc
This video resource and all the videos are provided free of charge as a gift from FBC Carthage.
