FBC Carthage E-News
January 13, 2020
Good Morning,
It was a blessing to have
Bill Gruenewald, President of the Tennessee Baptist Foundation preach for us in
the morning service. The message was a
powerful reminder of using the resources God has given us for more than
ourselves. In the luncheon following the
service, he shared four main documents needed in an estate plan: a will, an advance directive for health care
(living will), a power of attorney, and a power of attorney for health care. I encourage each person to make sure you have
these four documents in place. January
is “Make Your Will” month and every year we encourage you to review your will
and other documents. Having these
directives will not hasten your death nor cause your sickness. Not having them can greatly add to the sorrow and tragedy your
family will face. These documents are
part of your stewardship to God for the things He has entrusted to you.

January is also Human
Trafficking Awareness Month. I met with
Ashleigh Chapman and her husband Sloan last week on the latest information and
resources available through the Alliance for Freedom, Restoration, and
Justice. There are more than 26 million
slaves throughout the world, many right here in the United States. The Alliance’s new project is to train 1
million heroes throughout the United States who know what to look for and how
to report suspected human trafficking.
Their website is: https://engagetogether.com/.
Find out more on how you
can be an “Everyday Hero” through the training offered. Spend an hour. Save a life.
Ashleigh
Chapman is also featured in the RightNow Media video of the week entitled “Engage
Together: How the Church Can Engage to
End Human Trafficking.” Check out the video series: https://www.rightnowmedia.org/Content/Series/362142 As great an evil as human
trafficking is, our God is still greater. As overwhelming as the number and
statistics may be, His Church far outnumbers it all. The Church is uniquely positioned to combat human trafficking
and to prevent it from happening in the first place. You will learn: What it will take to
eradicate human trafficking in your community. How to identify and protect
vulnerable populations. The many ways there are to engage. Who all must participate,
and what all must be done. Where does your church start, and more.
Remember, if you haven’t
signed-up for RightNow Media you can do that right now. Simply go to https://www.rightnowmedia.org/Account/Invite/cfbc.
This
video resource and all the videos are provided free of charge as a gift from
FBC Carthage.
The 2020 Read through the
Bible plan is printed in the bulletin and E-News each week. In addition, it is also available as an
online reading group at https://bible.com/p/21146697/2d6898416a3cd4c887a43790c5270f47
The online group will
provide the daily readings online, devotional videos of each book of the Bible,
and opportunity to comment on your readings with the group. The readings began
on January 1, 2020 but you can join us right where we are. Join the reading group for a great journey in
God’s word, together.
