FBC Carthage E-News
April 15, 2019
Blessed Holy Week,
This week is Holy Week on
the Christian calendar as we remember the last week of Jesus’ life leading up
to the crucifixion and resurrection.
Take time this week to read through one of the Gospel accounts of Jesus’
Passion, from the Triumphant Entry into Jerusalem to the glorious resurrection. This week truly was a week that changed human
history. It was the week that stands as
the apex of salvation for mankind. The
Old Testament points to this one week in prophecy and the New Testament points
to this week in praise. This is our week
of celebration as Christians. Jesus died
on the cross for our sins and rose again for our justification! The price of sin has been paid. Forgiveness is now available. Let us celebrate Jesus!
This is a perfect week to
invite someone to join you for the special services on Good Friday at 6;30 PM
and Easter Sunday at 10:45 AM. Our
emphasis last week, “Who’s Your One?” leads directly to your invitations this
week.
We will host the Defeated
Creek Campground Service this Sunday, April 21 at 8:30 AM for the campers. Bro. Tim Frank will be leading this service
at the campground pavilion.
The entire offering on
Easter Sunday will be given to the Annie Armstrong Offering for North American Missions
in honor and praise of our resurrected Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We give on this greatest of all Sundays that
the gospel of Christ will reach the lost and hurting in the United States and
Canada. The video we shared in the
service yesterday gives a good snapshot of the work of the North American
Mission Board. Check it out: https://vimeo.com/255606852
We will have a special “Photo
Station” set up this Sunday for you and your family to have an Easter picture
made. Gather the entire family together
and worship together this Easter Sunday.
Be making your plans and
inviting your “One” to attend the Spring Revival on May 5-8 with Bro. Willie
McLaurin preaching and Bro. Jim Wilburn leading the music. We will have services Sunday morning at 10:45
AM and nightly at 6:30 PM. Bro. Jim will
be leading a Revival Choir each evening and everyone is invited to be a part of
this special choir as they lead us in worship and praise.
We will continue visiting
all the homes in Carthage tonight beginning at 5:00 pm. There will be a sandwich supper in the
Christian Life Center and afterwards we will go out and distribute a special
invitation to the services along with the “Jesus” DVD and a bag of
popcorn. Join us tonight as we share the
good news of Jesus.
Just a reminder to be
using the “40 Days Toward Revitalization” Prayer Guide this week as we pray for
our upcoming revival with Bro. Willie McLaurin, May 5-8.
Thank you to all the
workers and leaders in AWANA. Last night was the final session for this
school year. AWANA is our Discipleship Program for Preschool, Children,
and Youth as they memorize scripture and learn about Jesus. The 2019-20
AWANA year will begin on Sunday, August 11.
Last night in the service
we explored the direction Jesus gives of “Laying up treasures in heaven.” We make much needed preparations for
retirement and our life on earth but what are we laying up for our eternity in
heaven? Jesus tells the parable of the
foolish farmer who laid up treasures for himself but was not "rich towards
God.” This is a powerful passage for us
today. Check out the message on the
church’s Facebook page or click on: https://www.facebook.com/firstbaptistcarthage/videos/2180357735383462/?epa=SEARCH_BOX
Have a blessed week,
Bro. Tim
