FBC Carthage E-News
March 11, 2019
Good morning,
Last week the local Drug
Coalition presented a special forum for the churches in our area. It was very informative as various ones
shared the plight of our community in the wake of the drug and alcohol crisis. The state of Tennessee has established
Faith-Based coordinators through the state to work to involve churches in this
issue. They recognize it is a spiritual
battle for those addicted and held captive.
It is no longer just an individual or family issue but a spiritual issue
that needs the whole community of Christian Believers to join together and pray.
There is a community-wide Call
to Prayer asking Christians to pray daily for those addicted to drugs and
alcohol to be released from this stronghold of Satan. I invite you to pray each day at 8:30 AM or
PM for this crisis. I have chosen 8:30
because in Luke 8:30 Jesus asks the demon possessed man, “What is your name?”
and he said, “Legion,” because many demons had entered him. Through the power of Jesus Christ, this man who
could not be controlled by society’s strategies was completely freed from the
demons, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind. That is my prayer for each and everyone who
is struggling with addiction. Jesus
is the answer.
I appreciate those who are
actively involved in combatting this drug and alcohol crisis. Judge Michael Collins faces the devastating
effects of drugs and alcohol in every court sessions. He has enlisted Lisa Reece and others from
our church to work with him in Recovery Court, Bridging the Gap, and other
programs designed to bring Christian influence into the addicts’ lives. Barbara Kannapel and the Drug Coalition serve
tirelessly to move our community to take the steps necessary to combat the
crisis. Tommy and Suzanne Angel work
with her in educating families and friends in overdose awareness and providing
tools to prevent overdose deaths. Pray
for all those on the front lines as they lead us all to make a difference.
In the next few weeks we
will be focusing on the work of the North American Mission Board and the 5,000
missionaries that serve in the United States and Canada. We will also be receiving the Annie Armstrong
Offering for North American Missions during the month of April. For more information on the work of the North
American Mission Board go to: https://www.namb.net/
Pray for Matthew Lynn and
a mission team of UT college students headed to Guatemala on Saturday. Also, Matthew will be our Summer Ministry
Intern this year and we look forward to serving with him.
If you missed the service
yesterday, go to the First Baptist Church Carthage Facebook page and hear the
Children’s Choir at the very first as they sing “Lord You Are Good.” Listen to the rest of the service as well,
while you are there.
There is still room for
you on the trip to Israel, September 15-24.
