FBC Carthage E-News
January 14, 2019
Good Morning,
Each January we
emphasize the importance of making, reviewing and/or, revising your will as an
important part of our Christian stewardship.
Stewardship is more than the money and offerings given each week in the
worship service. Christian stewardship
affects all areas of life for which a person is responsible to God. He has entrusted to us everything we have;
finances, family, responsibilities. This
responsibility extends to how one I leaves his resources at the time of
death. A will directs the distribution
of assets but it is so much more. For
the younger couple, a will directs the ongoing care for children. It is the responsible to do to have a plan of
who will care for your children in the case of an unforeseen accident. A will is also an opportunity to contribute
one final time to the work of God. This
past year we have a member who left several thousand dollars to the church
after her passing. Take time this month
to review your will, or if you do not have a will, contact a local attorney to
draw up a will for you. There are many
legal parts to a will which makes an attorney the best resource for the
job. January is the month to get your house in
order. Make your will this month.
January is also the month
we celebrate human life and receive a special offering for the Pregnancy Help
Center. Baby bottles are available in
the front foyer and the Connection Point for you to save up your change over
the next several weeks. Bring them back by
Sunday, February 10 for this special offering.
We are glad to partner with the Pregnancy Help Center at 108 College
Avenue W to provide encouragement, resources, and support for expectant women
and families. If you would like to know
more about their services and volunteer opportunities, contact the Director, Alicia
Hoffman at 615 281-8054.
Contribution Statements
for 2018 are ready to be picked up on the table in the Connection Point. Please pick-up your statement this Sunday. Statements remaining after Sunday, January 20
will be mailed the following week. Please
note that if you wish for your contributions to be recorded you must use an
offering envelope with your name and the amount of your offering marked on the
front of the envelope. If you are not receiving packets of personalized
offering envelopes in the mail, please contact the church office. Also, there are blank envelopes on the back
of each pew for your use.
Thank you for your
continued prayers and concern for Fran and I during this season of
illness. We have a gallbladder test and doctor
visit this Wednesday which should better direct the next step of care.
Pray for our college
students as most of them begin a new semester of classes this week. This is an important week for them and their families.
Have a blessed week,
Bro. Tim
Here is the news for the
week:
·
We have had
several weeks of increased attendance in Sunday School at 9:30 AM. There are classes for all ages. A great New Year’s Resolution is to be in
Sunday School each week. Sunday School
offers great Bible study and discussion, fellowship and care for one another,
and the perfect place to get to know others.
Be in Sunday School this week.
·
The Winter/Spring Semester of AWANA continues to have good
attendance and many new members. Be sure
and bring your children to AWANA each Sunday night. Our workers are doing a great job sharing the
Bible lessons and helping the children learn their memory verses. Parents are also needed to review verses at
home. AWANA meets each Sunday at 5:30 PM
in the Christian Life Center for children and youth from preschool through high
school. Also, remember the adult Sunday
evening worship services are at 6:00 PM each Sunday evening in the Sanctuary
and dismiss in time to pick up your children in AWANA.
·
The Sew-n-Sews
ladies’ sewing group is gearing up for Operation Christmas Child 2019. All ladies
are invited to be part this ministry of making dresses and shorts for OCC
shoe-boxes. Their first workday will be Monday, January 21 at 9:00 AM in the
Christian Life Center. Sewing skills are
helpful, but not required.
·
The next semester of GriefShare, a 13-week Grief Support Group will begin
on Tuesday, January 22, 6:00 PM at the Chamber of Commerce, 969 Upper Ferry
Road. You don’t have to make the grief
journey alone.
·
The Youth Ministry is planning a special Disciple Now weekend on February
8-9 for all students, 7th-12th grades. Host homes are needed for the Friday night
for small groups of 4-5 youth, including their adult leader. If you would like to be a part of this
weekend and host a group overnight contact Bro. Matt Davis.
·
A great
goal for 2019 will be to Read the Bible through in One Year. We will be using the monthly Bible Pathway
booklets with devotionals, prayer requests, and country highlights for each
day. Pick up your copy this Sunday in
the Connection Point or Main Foyer. You
can also follow the readings online at https://www.crosswalk.com/devotionals/biblepathways/
