Happy New Year!

This is a day of reflection and anticipation.  Reflection on the blessings of the previous year and anticipation for all God has in store for the year to come.  Whatever you intended to do in 2018, today’s the day.  All you plan to do in 2019, starts tomorrow.  May this be a great year for you as you allow the Lord to lead and guide you.  Happy New Year!

Please pray for Fran and I as she continues to make improvements at Cookeville Regional Hospital.  She came in Wednesday with a bad infection and in septic shock.  Her blood pressure is now back to normal and her white blood count is coming down.  Thank you for your prayers for us during this time of sickness.  I appreciate Bro. Matt Davis covering many of my responsibilities and preaching last night in the evening service.

We have reached our goal for the Lottie Moon Offering for International Missions!  As of Sunday’s bulletin, we had received $14,376.50 and since then we received $869.00.  Our goal was $15,000 and as of today we have received $15,245.50!  Praise the Lord!  May the name of Jesus and the good news of the Gospel be shared with the peoples of the world.

We celebrate with Stephen Pride coming forward last night in the service for membership. What a great way to end 2018!

Due to illness and conflicts we are going to cancel and reschedule our annual mission/ministry trip to the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home in Franklin that was scheduled for January 3-4.

Take some time today to reflect on God’s blessings in 2018 and pray for God’s leadership in your life and in our church for 2019.
Happy New Year!
Bro. Tim

Here is the news for the week:

·        The Church Office will be closed January 1.

·        The Winter/Spring Semester of AWANA will begin this Sunday, January 6 at 5:30 PM.  This discipleship program is for children and youth from preschool through high school.  Bring your children and join us for this time of learning and fun.  Adult Sunday evening worship services are at 6:00 PM each Sunday evening in the Sanctuary.

·        FBC Carthage is exploring the possibilities of a 3-year partnership with Pastor Elijah Wanje and Ridgeways Baptist Church in Nairobi, Kenya that will begin in 2019.  We would partner with them in helping to start a new church in Kenya.  An information/interest meeting will be held on Sunday, January 6 at 4:00 PM (Note Change in Time) for anyone interested in participating and knowing more about this partnership.

·        The January Church Council and Deacon’s meetings will be this Sunday, January 6 at 3:00 PM and 7:15 PM respectfully.

·        The Women on Missions will have their first meeting of 2019 on Monday, January 7 at 6:30 PM.  The meeting will be held at the New Salem Baptist Association office on 3rd Avenue across from the Historic Courthouse and the Library.  All ladies are invited.

·        The Young at Heart will have a potluck luncheon and program on Tuesday, January 8 at 11:30 AM in the Christian Life Center. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish for the meal.

·        The next semester of GriefShare, a 13-week Grief Support Group will begin on Tuesday, January 22, 6:00 PM at the Chamber of Commerce, 969 Upper Ferry Road.  You don’t have to make the grief journey alone.

·        We are planning a church-wide trip to Israel, September 15-24, 2019 and I want you to go with me.  FBC Carthage will join with Upper Helton Baptist in Alexandria and Stevens Street Baptist in Cookeville to promote the trip.  The three Pastors, myself, Jimmy Arms, and Scott Parkison will be co-leading the group.  The details, price, itinerary, and registration are all located at www.go-yael.com/sep2019/.  Use the password   sep    to register and/or check out the information.  Fran and I are going on this exact trip in January to experience the Holy Land and prepare for our trip in September.  I encourage you to pray about taking this trip of a lifetime and walk where Jesus walked.

·        A great goal for 2019 will be to Read the Bible through in One Year.  We will be using the monthly Bible Pathway booklets with devotionals, prayer requests, and country highlights for each day.  Pick up your copy this Sunday in the Connection Point or Main Foyer.  You can also follow the readings online at  https://www.crosswalk.com/devotionals/biblepathways/
