FBC Carthage E-News for October 29, 2018

FBC Carthage E-News
October 29, 2018

Good Morning,

Thank you to all who made the 2018 Trunk or Treat Fall Festival a great success.  We had between 200-300 people come for this event and gave out several thousand pieces of candy.  There were many great conversations with the guests from the community.  It was a fantastic night of outreach and care for our community.  All the hard work and planning was rewarded with a successful evening with the children.  Many pictures are posted on the First Baptist Carthage Facebook page.  Check them out.

Also posted on the Facebook page is the services from yesterday.  In the morning service Jerry Wilmore shared his testimony of God’s grace and strength in his cancer.  In the evening service we began a new series called “The Walk: Living the Christian Life.”  These are available for you to watch and share with others.  You can send them directly to a friend by Messenger.  Let’s utilize this resource to share Jesus with others.

This Sunday, November 4 we have a special guest sharing in the Sunday morning service, Rev. Stephen McCollum,  Stephen is Sheila Dodge’s brother and he will share his testimony and an important message he received from God’s word that helped him through the devastating loss of his son.  If you have a friend or family member who is grieving the death of a loved one, this will be a helpful and uplifting service to bring them.

Thank you to the Women on Mission and others who traveled on Friday to the Parent’s Night Out at the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home in Franklin.  There were 32 children and youth who participated in the evening of fun, food, and painted rocks.  The Children’s Home is a special ministry to my heart and I am always glad we can be a part of the children’s lives through events and projects.

Coats are needed for New York City.  We have received several coats but need many more to distribute in the Coats for the City distribution on December 1.  The deadline for bringing coats for our New York “Coats for the City” trip is in two weeks, Sunday, November 11.  Please bring new or used coats of any size, children, youth, or adults and place them in the collection box in the Connection Point.  For more information you can contact Bro. Tim or Bro. Matt at (615) 735-1929.

Bro. Matt and I have had an enjoyable College Road Trip this year.  We have one college remaining in our travels.  Continue to pray for our university students as they move toward the end of the semester.  We have a great group of students who are living out their faith on the campuses across our state.

Just a reminder that early voting is taking place at the Turner Building for the General Election through Thursday, November 1.  Every election is important and this one is no exception.  It only takes a few minutes to vote and it makes a difference in our nation.   Know the candidates and what they stand for then vote.   Election Day is Tuesday, November 6.  Whether you vote early this week or on Election Day, the main thing is to vote.

This Saturday, November 3rd is the day to set your clocks back one hour.  3:00 PM becomes 2:00 PM.  I encourage to set your clocks back an hour on Saturday night and enjoy the “extra” hour all afternoon long.

Here’s a good quote for the week from Dr. James Dobson:  "Married life is a marathon. It is not enough to make a great start toward long-term marriage. You will need the determination to keep plugging. Only then will you make it to the end."

Have a blessed week,
Bro. Tim

Here is the news for the week:

·        We will not have services this Wednesday, October 31 due to the many family and community activities on that evening.

·        Operation Christmas Child boxes are available in the Connection Point for you to pick up and fill.  This is a great ministry to the children in the world as we lovingly pack items in the shoebox and give it in the name of Jesus.  A flyer comes with every box that explains the types of items to pack.  Bring your completed boxes to church during the week of November 11-18.  FBC Carthage will also be receiving hundreds of boxes from the churches and individuals in our region.  If you would like to help in this part of the ministry, see Melody Tackett or Marreet Hutchins.

·        The Women on Missions will meet next Monday, November 5 in the Christian Life Center at 6:30 PM for a potluck dinner and program.  All ladies are invited to attend.

·        Due to scheduling conflicts, the Young at Heart group will meet a week early on Tuesday, November 6 at 11:30 PM for a potluck luncheon and program.

·        We look forward to hosting Pastor Elijah Wanje from Nairobi, Kenya next week.  He will be sharing in the Wednesday evening service on November 7 at 6:30 PM.

·        The Deacons will meet on Sunday, November 4 at 7:00 PM.
