Happy Fall Break,
For students, teachers,
and families this is a big week with the local schools out for Fall Break. It is good to take time to get away from the
everyday routine from time to time and rest, refresh, and recharge. It is also a great time to spend some extra
alone-time with God. Go for a hike, sit
by the lake, or just sit on the porch with your Bible and the Lord. During these Fall days, enjoy the crispness
in the air and give the Lord thanks for a beautiful season. Read some of the praise Psalms that give
worship and praise to God. Psalm 95-107
are several of the Psalms filled with praise and thanksgiving. Psalm 103:1-5 is a good way to begin your
prayer time as you read it aloud in worship to God:
“Bless the Lord, O my soul;
And all that is within me, bless His holy name!
2 Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits:
3 Who forgives all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases,
4 Who redeems your life from destruction,
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
5 Who satisfies your mouth with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
And all that is within me, bless His holy name!
2 Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits:
3 Who forgives all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases,
4 Who redeems your life from destruction,
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
5 Who satisfies your mouth with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
Speaking
of prayer, remember the PRAY 4:29 emphasis as we pray Acts 4:29 each day at
4:29 AM and/or PM. I believe in the power of prayer and the difference it makes
in our lives. Take a moment today at or
around 4:29PM to pray with the early church Believers, “ Now, Lord, look on their threats, and
grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word.”
We have
30 people participating in our new online class, “Sharing Jesus without
Freaking Out.” Each week the members of
the group read a chapter in the book Sharing Jesus without Freaking Out and
watch a video sent to you on Facebook.
This new format is a “study at your own pace” type of class. There are five discussion questions each week
to ponder and dialogue. You can sign up
today by sending me n email, tfrank@fbccarthage.com and ask to be added to the class. You can also watch through the videos at http://www.bhacademic.com/sharingjesus/#video.
Last week
we set as the #1 Objective of our church to see 18 persons come to know Jesus
as their Savior, follow Him in baptism, and begin their journey in
discvipleship by September 30, 2018. As
part of that objective we set a goal of having 1000 Gospel Conversations during
this year with the people you know and come in contact with. This past week we had 17 Gospel Presentations
reported through the Attendance Registers.
Remember each Sunday when you sign the attendance record to record the
number of Gospel Conversations you had that week using the initials GC and the
number. So, if you shared with 3 people
in a week you would record GC3 on the attendance register. It’s as easy as that.
As we
begin a new church year I want to thank you for your generous giving in the
2016-17 church year. The Lord worked
through those gifts in a strong way. I
also want to encourage you to continue giving faithfully and systematically in 2017-18
as we see God continue to use us in evangelism, discipleship, ministry, and missions.
During the message yesterday we shared
the power of prayer for our “Daily Bread” and told the story of Bill Hess, our
friend in North Dakota, and the Lord’s protection
during his recent semi-truck accident. We related the daily prayer his wife Kathy
made for him as he left for work. They
watched the service yesterday on our Facebook page and here is an e-mail
testimony Kathy shared of her daily prayer for Bill and his safety that blessed
my heart. She wrote,
“Tim..this is Kathy..I prayed specifically that God
would put his angels to the right, and to the left, put them in from of Bill
and behind him. The highway patrol said it was eery..he said the semi was
crushed all around but the seat where Bill was sitting was untouched. It
was like he was in a capsule! God hears our prayer. I have prayed
that prayer every morning with him in our devotions before he left, every morning.
I thought in my head it was such a corny prayer that I was always prompted to
pray. When I got the phone call from Bill and how he walked out of the
accident with no bruises, no cuts, no broken bones, and absolutely no
soreness..I knew why the Holy Spirit was always leading me to pray the
prayer. It was for such a time as this..I literally heard God's voice
say..’That’s why I had you pray that prayer.’ God is good, amazing, and
ever present!”
In your prayer time today remember to
pray for “Daily Bread”.
Have a blessed week,
Bro. Tim
