E-News for First Baptist Church Carthage April 10, 2017

FBC Carthage E-News
April 10, 2017

Good Morning,

This is a special week throughout the world as churches and Christians remember and reflect on the last week of Jesus’ earthly life.  This week is often called Holy Week and is commemorated with special services and times of prayer.  Take time this week to read through one or more of  the Gospel accounts of this week in the life of our Savior, Jesus Christ.  You can find these accounts in Matthew 21-28; Mark 11-16;  Luke 19-24;  John 12-21.  The crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ are the center pieces of our faith as Christians.  The Apostle Paul speaks of these events in Romans 4:25 as he says of Jesus, “who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification.”  Jesus’ death on the cross paid the price for our sins before God and through His resurrection, we through faith in Him are justified before God, made “just-as-if-we’d- never-sinned.”   Paul goes on to say in Romans 10:9-10, “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”  The very heart and soul of salvation is centered in the cross and the resurrection.  This is a most holy of weeks to Believers in Jesus Christ.

This Friday, Good Friday, April 14, we will have a special service focused on the cross of Christ at 6:30 PM.  The churches from the New Salem Association of Baptists will be joining us for this service.  Several Pastors will bring brief messages from the perspective of those who were at the crucifixion.  We will also have special music and the observance of the Lord’s Supper.  Please make this service a part of your Holy Week remembrance.

This Sunday, April 16 is celebration Sunday of the Resurrection as we remember and proclaim the joyous news of the angels to the women who came to the tomb, “But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified.  He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.  And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you.” (Matthew 28:5-7)
We will have Sunday School at 9:30 AM this Sunday, April 16 and the morning service will begin a little early at 10:30 AM.  In addition to a special message and time of worship centered on the Resurrecton, the Sanctuary Choir will have a special musical celebration of Jesus, His crucifixion and resurrection entitled, “Mighty to Save,”  Make your plans to attend and invite family and friends to attend with you.  Your family and friends will attend Easter Sunday services with you if you will invite them.
This Sunday, April 16 we will have a special offering for the missionaries and church planters of the North American Mission Board.  In fact, the entire offering will be given for the speard of the gospel across the United States and Canada.  Three of the North American Missionaries we help support through this offering are Zeke Tomaselli in Hilo, Hawaii; Christy Dyer in New York City; and Kewon Foster in Atlanta, Georgia.  Let us give generously as we proclaim our resurrected Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ to the peoples of North America.
In anticipation of a large attendance, we will have overflow seating in the Christian Life Center.  Bro. Matt will be available in that venue to greet you as you attend and to receive those making decisions during the invitation.
We are also looking forward to our Spring Revival, May 7-10 with Bro. Kewon Foster as he preaches the Word and the Nesbitt Family as they lead in worship.  In preparation for this time of revival we will have a special visitation each Monday night leading up to the services for us to go into our community and invite our friends and neighbors to attend.  We will begin our visitation tonight, April 10 at 6:00 PM.  Meet in the Christian Life Center as we reach out in the name of Jesus.  There will be opportunity for you to make specific visits to people on your heart, visits to neighbors in the community, and/or cards and letters you can write to those we have been missing in the services.  Let us all prepare our own hearts and minds for this season of reviving and revitalization.  May our pray be, “Lord send revival, and let it begin in me.”

A special “Thank You” goes to Bro. Matt Davis and Bro. Brad Tackett who preached last week while I was away for a time of vacation.   Also, thank you to all who helped out in the various ministry areas during my time away.

Have a blessed “Holy Week” as you reflect on Jesus,
Bro. Tim
