FBC Carthage E-News for December 12, 2016

FBC Carthage E-News

December 12, 2016

Good Morning,

The Christmas Season is here and in full swing.  As we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ I hope you have all the special services and activities on your calendar.  These services will feature special music for the celebration of Christmas and messages centered on the blessings Jesus brings.  Here is a list of the events beginning this week:

December 13    Ladies Ornament Exchange, 6:00 PM @ CLC

December 18    Sanctuary Choir Christmas Service, 10:30 AM

Shut-In Communion Christmas Services, 5:00 PM

December 24    Christmas Eve Candlelight Communion Service, 5:00 PM

December 25    Christmas Sunday Service, 10:30 AM

(No Sunday School or PM Service)

We had a great sharing time last night in the evening service as the Mission New York Team shared of their trip and experiences.  If you missed the service you can watch it online at www.fbccarthage.com and scroll down the home page to the Live Stream Audio – Live Broadcast 2016/12/11.

The offering received yesterday for the Tennessee Baptist Disaster Relief effort in Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge was $1,315.05.  If you didn’t get a chance to give to help those devastated by the fire, you can still give through the church or you can give directly online at http://tnbaptist.serveronline.net/pymt/dr2016easttnfires.htm .  We will send the offering to the Disaster Relief effort after Wednesday of this week.   Here is more information on the Tennessee Baptist Disaster Relief ministry.  Check it out at: http://tndisasterrelief.org/

During the month of December we are focusing on International Missions and receiving the Lottie Moon Offering for International Missions.  Everyone is asked to give a special gift for missions during this emphasis through the special offering envelopes in your mailed packets or the envelopes in the pews.  In addition, the entire offering on Christmas Sunday, December 25 will go toward this mission offering as a birthday present to Jesus.  The three words of mission action are Pray, Give, Go.

Have a blessed week,
Bro. Tim

Here is the news of the week:

·        The Backpacking Ministry gathering at the Ag Center has been cancelled for today.

·        The Ladies Ornament Exchange will be Tuesday, December 13, 6:00 PM in the Christian Life Center.  All ladies are invited for this fun evening of fellowship.  Please bring a wrapped ornament and finger foods.

·        Remember to bring your Christmas Cards for church friends and “mail” them by the WOM Mission Express.  Simply bring your cards with names and drop them in the WOM  mailbox located in the Connection Point.  Our WOM ladies will deliver your cards for you during Sunday School.  No stamps required, just a request that you drop the money you would have spent on postage in the jar beside the mail collection box.  This “postage” will be given to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.

·        The Young at Heart will have a Christmas Luncheon on Tuesday, December 13 at The Cheesecake Factory at the Mall at Green Hills in Nashville.  We will meet at 10:00 AM and return by 3:30 PM.

·        The Staff/Deacon Christmas Dinner is this Friday, December 16 at 6:30 PM in the Christian Life Center.  Bring a covered dish to share.  Also, ladies bring an ornament to exchange and men bring a $7-10 tool to exchange.

·        For Sunday School class parties and family gatherings, please remember to check with Deborah Weaver, Church Secretary, before scheduling any activities in the Christian Life Center during the holidays.  Her phone number is 615-735-1929.

·        Two events at the Ag Center next week would be good class Christmas projects:

Monday, December 12, 4:00 PM         Backpack packing

Wednesday, December 14, 11:00 AM Community-Wide Food Distribution

·        The Winter Youth Retreat will be held in Pigeon Forge on December 28-30.  The youth will be joining thousands of students from around our state for the “Strength to Stand Conference.”  The cost is $75 per student, which includes lodging.  For information see Bro. Matt Davis.

·        On Sunday, January 1, 2017, Zeke and Layne Tomaselli and their sons will be sharing in the morning service about the exciting things God is doing in Hawaii, in their church , and especially in their family.

·        During 2017 everyone is challenged to read the Bible through and to help us in this journey we will once again provide the Bible Pathway reading guides each month.  In addition to a Read Through in a Year Plan, the guides also have a prayer guide for praying through the countries of the world and praying for elected officials on their birthdays.  Copies will be available this Sunday, December 18.  Take the challenge.  Make the commitment.  Read the entire Bible through in 2017.

·        A Mission/Ministry project will be held to the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home in Franklin on January 2 and 3.  There will be painting, leaf raking, and other seasonal projects.

·        Bible Reading for the Week:

Dec. 12        Hosea 12-14          Revelation 4

Dec. 13        Joel 1-3                 Revelation 5

Dec. 14        Amos 1-3              Revelation 6

·        During this Christmas season there are many movies that have become classics.  One of those is Charles Dickens’ story of A Christmas Carol.  Many versions of this story have been made but the one that I think has the most Christian influence is the 1951 version.  Here is an online link:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urdJOySUOzE
