FBC Carthage E-News
October 31, 2016
Good Morning,
Today is a day children
look forward to as they go Trick-r-Treating for candy through the
neighborhoods. It is also a good
opportunity to share the love and word of God.
As you distribute candy tonight, include a Christian greeting, tract, or
Bible verse with your candy. With a
computer and printer it is easy to print Bible verses on paper, cut them into
slips, and hand them out to the children
with your candy. What better treat could
you give than an encouraging, life transforming verse from God’s Word. Remember to give candy with the verse as
well.
This weekend is our On
Mission Celebration as we welcome several missionaries to Smith County and hear
them share what God is doing with and through them. This Saturday, November 5 is an
Association-wide Mission Fair at First Baptist Gordonsville beginning at 4:30
PM. Bring a covered dish and join
missionaries as they display items from their work and share a brief update on
their area of ministry. We will have two
of the missionaries in the services on Sunday.
Christy Dyer, our missionary contact in New York City will share in the
morning service and Scott Payne in the evening service and AWANA.
Operation Christmas Child boxes
are available in the Connection Point for you to pack with items for a boy or
girl around the world. Each year, thousands
of boys and girls are touched through these shoeboxes filled with love and
blessings. Our church goal is 300 boxes which represents
300 children’s lives touched in the name of Jesus. Let’s all join in the excitement, joy, and
wonder of Operation Christmas Child.
Pack a box today. Drop-off Sunday
will be November 14 with boxes being received through November 21.
As in any Road Trip, there
are often changes in plans and so it was last week with the College Road Trip
2016. Matt and I had dinner with the
students at UT in Knoxville last Thursday and have rescheduled Tennessee Tech
for two days to better meet the students’ schedules. This is an enjoyable and encouraging ministry
as we have the privilege of going to the student’s community and spending some
time with them over a meal. Here is our
schedule for the College Road Trip for this week:
Monday, October 31, 12:15 PM Cookeville Cheddar’s
Tuesday, November 1, 11:30 AM Lebanon Cracker
Barrel
Thursday, November 3, 6:30 PM Cookeville Cheddar’s
Monday, November 7, 12 Noon Nashville TBA
Help pass the word to the
students you know in the towns we will be visiting. They are welcome to invite a friend to join
us. As the semester begins to move toward
completion, pray for our college students in their studies and their walk with
Christ.
Photography for the new Pictorial
Directory will begin next week, November 11-12 with almost every space
filled! There are still many appointment
times open on the two additional days of photography, December 2 and 3. You can make reservations for you and your
family by going to the church’s website, www.fbccarthage.com and click on the Events page. On the Events page you will see the link to
the Pictorial Directory Reservations. You
can also go directly to the registration form by clicking on:
It may be easier for you
to contact Deborah at the Church Office
and she will be happy to schedule your appointment. Call her today at 615-735-1929. It is so important that every family be
included in the directory. Every family
will receive a free 8x10 photo and a free directory once completed. There will also be opportunity to purchase
additional pictures if desired. Don’t
put off making your appointment. Go
online or cal the church office today.
Early voting continues
through Thursday, November 3 at the Turner Building in Carthage. Election Day is coming up very quickly on Tuesday,
November 8. The months of campaigns,
debates, speeches, and discussions are almost over for this election and it is
time to make a choice on some very crucial matters. Between
the local referendums on liquor sales in Carthage and South Carthage and the
national election of President, this election is too important to “sit-it-out”. Pray.
Go. Vote. Vote early before
November 3 or go to the polls and vote on Election Day, November 8. Your vote counts. Your vote matters.
Don’t forget to bring your
coats to the Connection Point to be taken to New York City for distribution to
the needy and homeless. Our Mission New
York Team will carry the coats to the city and distribute them, December
1-5. A box is located I the Connection
Point for your coats, hats, scarves, and gloves. All sizes are needed, especially the XL, XXL,
and XXXL.
This Saturday, November 5
is the ending of Daylight Savings Time.
Turn your clocks back one hour before you go to bed on Saturday
night.
Have a blessed week,
Bro. Tim
