FBC Carthage E-News
October 3, 2016
Good Morning,
It is great to be back in
Tennessee and enjoying this Fall weather.
I appreciate Brad Tackett and Marty Dodge preaching for me while I was
away. I also want to thank Matt Davis
for covering many Pastoral duties last week in my absence. It is good to get away for a rest but it is
even better to get back home. As Dorothy
said in the Wizard of Oz, “There’s no place like home.”
This week the new Pictorial
Directory reservation site is open and available for you and your family to
make your reservations. The dates for
photography are Friday and Saturday, November 11 & 12. To sign-up, simply go to the church’s
website, www.fbccarthage.com and click
on the Events page and you will see the link to the Pictorial Directory Reservations. It takes less than five minutes to reserve a photography
time. It is important that every family
be included in the directory so for your participation, every family will
receive a free 8x10 photo and a free directory once completed. There will also be opportunity to purchase
additional pictures if desired. We will have assistance available this Sunday
in the Connection Point to help you with reservations.
The New York mission team
is collecting coats to distribute in the city during their December 1-5
trip. A box is located I the Connection
Point for your coats, hats, scarves, and gloves. Any size is needed, especially the XL, XXL,
and XXXL.
It has been brought to our
attention of the need for additional handicap parking on the Fite Avenue side
of the church. Beginning Sunday, look
for the newly designated spaces.
John Etheridge had 15 in
attendance yesterday for our final Defeated Campground Service of the
season. The services will continue through
November but this was the final one for our church to host. Thanks to all those who helped lead in this
ministry during the year.
The November 8 Election
Day is only 5 weeks from tomorrow and everyone is urged to be praying for our
community, state, and nation. In
addition, everyone is encouraged to be registered to vote and to exercise your
right to vote. Several crucial issues
are on the ballot for citizens of Carthage and South Carthage, in addition to
the extremely important selection of the next President of the United
States. The deadline to register to vote
is November 13.
As you go about your
business this week, be aware of the people around you and take time to
encourage one another along the way. I
am reminded weekly of the many people who are dealing with great burdens in
their lives and the lives of their families.
For us, Jesus said the greatest commandment was to love the Lord your
God with all your heart, soul, and mind.
He also said the second greatest commandment is to love your neighbor as
you love yourself. Take time this week
to care for others as they go through the sorrows, sickness, and challenges of
life.
Have a blessed week,
Bro. Tim
Here’s the news for the
week:
·
The Women on
Mission Group will meet tonight, Monday, October 3 6:30 pm in the Christian
Life Center. They will be finalizing plans for the Soul Food Café at Tennessee
Tech Baptist Collegiate Ministry on October 13. All ladies are invited to
attend.
·
The Youth will
have a Lock-In this Friday, October 7-8. See Bro. Matt this Wednesday
night for details.
·
The youth were
challenged in Sunday School yesterday to participate in a special emphasis this
Thursday, October 6 called “Bring Your Bible to School Day.” The details are simple, bring your Bible with
you to school as a testimony of your faith in Jesus. This is also a good encouragement for adults
to bring your Bible to work on Thursday as well.
·
The Young at
Heart is planning a picnic on Tuesday, October 11 to Burgess Falls State
Park. There is a moderate ¾ mile walk
back to the falls or simply sit under the shade of the pavilion near the
peaceful Rolling Fork River. We will
pick up a picnic lunch at Kentucky Fried Chicken so you don’t have to bring
anything, except maybe a favorite camp chair.
·
Everyone is
invited for a day trip to the Ark Encounter in Kentucky on October 20, 2016. We will plan to leave from the church parking
lot at 6:00 AM. The Ark is a life-size
replica of Noah’s Ark and contains a museum-type displays inside. Ticket prices are $40 for adults, $31 for
Seniors, $28 for Children, and FREE for ages 4 and under. For more information check out the website
for the Ark Encounter at https://arkencounter.com. Please sign up by email to tfrank@fbccarthage.com or through the
attendance registers in the pews.
·
FBC Carthage is currently
receiving resumes for a part-time custodian. For more details contact John
Etheridge or the church office for a full list of qualification and
responsibilities.
