FBC Carthage News for September 12, 2016

FBC Carthage E-News
September 12, 2016

Good Morning,

Yesterday was a day of remembrance for many Americans as we prayed and reflected on the events of 9/11/2001.  It is hard to imagine 15 years have passed since that fateful day that changed our nation and changed our lives.  Seeing the images and video of those two towers crumbling to the ground brings back a flood of memories and feelings.  I remember, as most of you, where I was and what I did on the morning of September 11, 2001.  It is like that day is burned into my memory.  For the thousands of people who were killed and the millions of lives that were impacted may we never forget the agony and emotions of that day and the weeks and months that followed.

As I watched the special memorial program last night in the comfort of my home, I saw the videos of the policemen and firemen who were running into the burning towers while everyone else was running out.  It made me stop and pray for our policemen, firemen, and EMTs who daily rush into harm’s way to help those in need.  This week is a week of remembrance but it is also a week to express appreciation to those who serve us, the brave heroes of our community.  As you see a policeman, sheriff’s deputy, fireman, EMT, rescue squad member, or other emergency personnel, take a minute to thank them for their faithful service.  In this day of unrest and protest across our nation, it is time for us to acknowledge and show appreciation for those who serve.

While we are expressing appreciation for those who faithfully serve, let’s remember to be thankful for those who serve in the work and ministry of First Baptist Church.   We have many who serve the Lord and the people of our church in the various ministries and behind the scenes every week.  Let us never forget that volunteers give countless hours each week to serve the needs of this congregation.  From those making phone calls and visits, to audio-visual technicians, to teachers, to musicians, to workers in the preschool, to many other faithful workers let us all say “Thank You for a job well done.”

Please continue to pray for those who continue to recover after surgeries and health issues.  Also, please remember Corey and Lyndsey Cunningham as they await the birth of their twin daughters this week.

Have a blessed week,
Bro. Tim Frank

Here’s the News for the Week:
  • The Women on Missions meeting will be tonight Monday, September 12 at 6:30 PM in the Christian Life Center.  All ladies are invited and encouraged to attend.

·        During the month of September we are focusing on State Missions through the Tennessee Baptist Convention and receiving the Golden Offering for State Missions.  The Golden Offering for Tennessee Missions is a child coming to Christ through Journey Camps. It’s English being taught to someone from another country and sharing Jesus with them in the process. It’s some of the poorest people in America receiving physical help and the gospel. It’s a boy at a youth detention facility being saved and baptized. And so much more! I encourage everyone to give to this special offering which provides funds for many mission and ministry works across our state.  Check out this website for more information, videos, and a breakdown of the distribution for this special offering.  Go to:   http://www.tnbaptist.org/page.asp?page=127

·        The Backpack Ministry needs volunteers today, September 12 at 4:00 PM at the Ag Center to pack food bags for the school children in Smith County.  Each week, 250 children receive these bags in their backpacks to have food to eat over the weekend. This ministry meets the basic needs of children in our community every week.  Come out today and help pack these food bags and pray for the children they will help this month.

·        The Community Food Distribution will be this Wednesday, September 14 at the Smith County Ag Center.  Volunteers are asked to come at 10 AM to help unload the truck, pack the boxes, and distribute the food.  This Community Food Distribution is quite an operation to see and a great ministry to be involved.  Volunteers are allowed to pack a box for themselves or for a needy family they would like to take food.
