FBC Carthage E-News
August 15, 2016
Good Morning,
I
want to thank Matt Davis, John Etheridge, and Jerry Wilmore for preaching for
me and covering my responsibilities while I was in Arkansas visiting my
daughter and her husband, Michael and Jill Ellenbarger. It is good to get to visit with family and
spend some time catching up. They have
just moved to northwest Arkansas where Jill has begun her work as an Assistant
Professor at John Brown University.
I
have heard good reports on the services yesterday and the great attendance last
night for the first night of AWANA.
There were 42 children and 25 workers for the first session. I am excited as we see this ministry have a
great new start after the summer time off.
AWANA is our discipleship program of scripture memory and Bible study with
classes for babies through high school students. Parents, make sure your child is in AWANA and
invite friend’s and neighbor’s children to come along with you. AWANA meets each Sunday night at 5:30 PM in
the Christian Life Center.
Last
week was also the beginning of our Fall 2016 Semester of GriefShare, a 12-week grief support group. We had
eight persons in the first sessions and several said they had others they would
invite for this week. The sessions will
be held each Tuesday evening at 6:00 PM at the Smith County Chamber of Commerce
Building, 939 Upper Ferry Road. GriefShare is open to everyone who has
lost a loved one in death. There is no cost for the sessions and a
workbook is available for a suggested donation of $15. GriefShare is
sponsored by First Baptist Church Carthage, Sanderson Funeral Home, and Bass
Funeral Home. For more information, contact Bro. Tim Frank or Mary
Marsh.
A free resource is available through GriefShare that provides a
365-day email devotional series to those experiencing grief. Every day a 3-4 paragraph email devotion is
sent to the person’s inbox with a scripture verse and comforting help. I have received these emails for three cycles
and find them helpful. If you would like
to receive these devotionals or refer them to others, go to http://www.griefshare.org/dailyemails.
This Wednesday night, August 17 we have a special guest speaker sharing
in the 6:30 PM Evening Service. Bro.
Denzil Jack is the pastor of four churches on the Bethel Circuit in Jamaica. Bro. Ray Guilder is hosting him in Tennessee
and asked if we would like for him to come and share. Several years ago a mission team from FBC
Carthage traveled to Jamaica and worked with Bro. Denzil. Come and join us Wednesday as we welcome our
Jamaican brother as he shares in the evening service.
Speaking of Wednesday evenings, I also remind you of the
fellowship meal served each week from 5:00-6:00 PM in the Christian Life
Center. The first week is FREE and after
that the price is $3 per person/$2 per child / $10 maximum per family.
Please pray for our college and university students as they move
to campus and prepare for the upcoming semester. Parents, we are in the process of compiling a
list of our college and university students and their school. Please contact the church off or send an
email to tfrank@fbccarthage.com.
Congratulations to Matt and Amanda Ferrell in the birth of their
daughter Avery Dyan Ferrell, born August 8, 2016. Congratulations also to Colton and Tatum,
Avery’s big brother and sister, John and Rhonda Etheridge, Avery’s proud
grandparents, and Eva Etheridge, Avery’s aunt.
Have a blessed week,
Bro. Tim Frank
