FBC Carthage E-News for September 14, 2015

FBC Carthage E-News
September 14, 2015

Good morning,
It is great to be back in Carthage after a week of vacation and visiting our daughter Jill and her husband Michael in Texas.  Everyone needs time to get away and relax, unwind, and be refreshed.  In fact, as we saw in the message last night, that was one of Jesus’ strategies of going away from the crowds for a period of time with the disciples to rest.

I appreciate Brad Tackett and Marty Dodge for preaching for me while I was away.  We are blessed to have men in our congregation who can and will step up and share the word of God.

This week is the Week of Prayer for State Missions as we focus our prayers on the lost in Tennessee.  It is often hard to imagine with all the churches there are people who have trusted in Christ in our state but the statistics show that 70% of the population in Tennessee are not born-again believers in Jesus.  There is a huge mission field in our own community and state.  This week we are reminded of the need to pray, give, and share with others the good news of Jesus.  This Sunday, September 20 we will receive a special offering for our state missions.  Offering envelopes are available in the pews for this offering.  For more information, inspirational videos, and a prayer guide for this week go to: http://www.tnbaptist.org/fullpage.asp?page=127

Speaking of prayer for missions, please be praying for the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention as they go through a difficult time and face the reduction of 600-800 missionaries around the world.  We have had around 5,000 missionaries serving through the IMB but due to financial shortfalls that number is being reduced.  The IMB receives funds from one source, the churches of the Southern Baptist Convention.  This is a wake-up call to all the churches to support our missionaries through our prayers and gifts.  Here is a recent article that gives more details to the reduction:  http://www.imb.org/updates/storyview-3516.aspx#.Vfb4N5fbxnQ   The Great Commission compels us as believers to be concerned for the peoples of the world and their eternal salvation through Jesus Christ.  The IMB has been and continues to be our main partner in missions and reaching the world for Christ.

On a more personal missions note, continue to pray for Glenda Baker as she serves this month  with the First Baptist Church in Poplar, Montana.

The Nominating Committee and the Committee on Committees will bring their reports to the church business meeting this Wednesday at 6:30 PM.  There are still a few spots open for service with the children and preschool on Sundays and Wednesdays.   Be praying for the Lord to raise up workers in these important areas of our church.  The Preschool years are foundational in a person’s life and the elementary years are when many come to profess Jesus as their Savior and Lord. What could be more important than making an eternal difference in the life of a child?  Remember Jesus’ words in Luke 9:37-38, Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few.  Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

It was a blessing to observe the baptism of Cole Hackett and Sharon Denney yesterday during the 10:45 AM service.  Please pray for them this week as they walk with Christ.

Have a blessed week,
Bro. Tim
