FBC Carthage E-News for June 22, 2015

FBC Carthage E-News
June 22, 2015

Good Morning,

This week we will send a team of 19 persons to Poplar, Montana to serve with the First Baptist Church in Vacation Bible School, community events, and several projects at the church and parsonage.  Many of us have grown to love the people in Poplar and formed strong friendships.  Please pray for the team as we travel and serve for the net couples of weeks.  Pray for boldness and clarity as we share with the children.  Pray for compassion and conviction as we reach-out into the community.  Pray for protection and good health throughout the trip.

During the morning services I mentioned the Tennessee Baptist Adult Homes and the offering we receive on Father’s Day each year.  Take a few moments and check-out the web-site for this important ministry in our state.  The Baptist Adult Homes minister to the elderly and the disabled.  In fact, there are two homes in Lebanon for disabled adults.  In addition to the home settings, the Baptist Adult Homes also conduct two “Special Friends” Camps each Summer for developmentally disabled persons from across the state.  These camps are always in need of volunteers to serve and minister to this special group of people.  For more information on the homes and camps, go to their website:  http://www.tnbaptisthomes.org/Index.html

Within a couple of weeks the Supreme Court of the United States of America will issue a landmark ruling on same-sex marriage in this country.  With this decision will come many challenges, regardless of the direction of the ruling.  It is important to know what you believe about marriage and why you believe the way you do biblically.  Believers cannot put our heads in the sand and pretend the issue is not there or that if we ignore it, it will go away.   This issue is a defining issue, not only for marriage in America but also for religious freedom to express and live by biblical beliefs.  Please pray earnestly for the Supreme Court and their ruling in this matter.  Be praying for Christians, the churches, and our response across this nation as the ruling is given.  The link below from Family Life will give you several resources in understanding the issues of same-sex marriage:  http://www.familylife.com/homosexuality-and-same-sex-marriage?utm_source=FamilyLife+Main+email+list&utm_campaign=0fa2f407e1-DR_SupremeCourtSSmarriage_Prayer_June19&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_55c1003dec-0fa2f407e1-35541945

Last week the former Presidents of the Southern Baptist Convention issued a proclamation concerning the issue of same-se marriage, calling churches and pastors to stand against the pressure to conduct such events should the Supreme Court rule them legal and constitutional.   Here is a link to the proclamation for your reference:  http://www.bpnews.net/44950/floyd-and-former-sbc-presidents-take-marriage-stance

Here is a great opportunity to serve in August.  This letter was sent to me recently about a North American Mission Board nationwide conference to be held in Nashville, Tennessee on August 3-4.  I have signed up to help and will be traveling back and forth each day and would be glad to take a van or bus load of volunteers to serve each day.  Here is the letter:

“You have an opportunity to serve the Church with us this August! The Send North America Conference 2015 http://sendconference.com is a two-day gathering of the church happening Aug. 3-4 in Nashville. The heart of this gathering is to see a movement of people from within the church living out the mission of God in their everyday lives.

We need a powerhouse team of volunteers to partner with us as we seek to inspire everyone to a life on mission to reach their communities, cities, North America and beyond! Volunteers will engage in each moment of the conference experience, from registration to hosting to equipping attendees with life-altering, ministry-shaping resources.

We’re looking for individuals who are ready to live out their mission by serving the Church with us! No special skills are required—just a heart to serve and availability Aug. 3-4. We’ll have a short gathering the evening of Aug. 2 to share vision and participate in brief team-specific training before we welcome attendees the next morning.

If this is you and you are at least 18 years old, complete our volunteer application at sendconference.com/volunteer. Consider recruiting friends from your small group, Sunday school class or Bible study to serve with you, ending your summer together on a high note as you serve!

Have a blessed week and remember to pray for the Mission Montana 2015 Team,
Bro. Tim
