FBC Carthage E-News for April 27, 2015

FBC Carthage E-News
April 27, 2015

Good morning,
It’s a beautiful Spring morning in Tennessee, a wonderful time to enjoy the wonder of God’s creation.  However, in the mad rush of life, it is often hard to take time to enjoy and appreciate the journey.  I talk to many people who seem to be barely hanging on, seemingly waiting for a future time when they will have more time to enjoy life.  It is important to realize that today is the day God has given us to enjoy and serve Him.  Everyone feels the pressure of the urgent.  The world makes more demands on us than we can bear.  The answer is Jesus and the peace and rest He gives.  One of my favorite verses is Matthew 11:28-30 where Jesus says to us, “ Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.   Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.   For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”  I also think of Psalm 46:1, 10 where the psalmist writes, “God is our refuge and strength,  A very present help in trouble. Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”  Life is more than a fretful, frantic race to nowhere.  Life is to be lived in relationship with the Prince of Peace.  Jesus is our life.  Learn to rest in Him this week.

This past week I have been focusing on the importance of worshipping God and the scriptural references to worship.  I have been convicted of the ease in which I find myself merely going through the motions during my Quiet Time and times of worship.  As I have been reminded, the Christian’s highest call, greatest duty, and chief aim is to glorify God in everything we do.   God is truly worthy of all our worship and praise.

Speaking of worship, we have a month of special worship services planned for May at FBC Carthage.  Here are the special emphases for the month of May:
·        May 3 is our recognition service for our high school and college graduates in both morning services.  We will also have a church-wide, covered dish luncheon at 12 noon in honor of the graduates.  Everyone is asked to bring a dish and attend the luncheon.  The 2015 Graduates are:
          High School Graduates
Seth Agee, Peyton Azbell , Mason Dillon, Wes Dunbar , Tre’ Gammons,
Tanner Hackett
          College/Trade School Graduates
Leah Bane, Tommy Lee Bane, Timmy Bush, Katie Daugherty,
Grant Denney, Mark Dillon, Zach Sanders

·        May 10 is Mother’s Day and we will recognize and remember the blessings of our moms.  We will have a special gift for every lady in the services and pictures will be made so bring your families.

·        On May 17, Navy Captain Barry Wilmore will share of his experiences as the recent Commander of the International Space Station and bring the morning message.

·        We will focus on the importance of the Bible, God’s Word, on May 24 and have a special presentation from the Gideons on the power of God’s Word to change lives through faith in Jesus Christ.

This is an important week in the moral history of our nation as the U.S. Supreme Court hears the case for marriage in the United States.  Although a ruling will not be given for a few months, this week will be the time the Judges hear the arguments for traditional marriage between a man and woman and the arguments for same-sex marriage between two men or two women.  The Justices need our prayers for divine judgment and wisdom in this case that could have tremendous effects on our nation for years to come.  Please pray this week for the Judges of the U.S. Supreme Court, the importance of marriage, and the spiritual condition of our nation.

Have a blessed week,
Bro. Tim
