FBC Carthage E-News for April 20, 2015

FBC Carthage E-News
April 20, 2015

Good Morning,
Each third Monday at 7:00 AM a group of Christians from many of the local churches gathers on the steps of the Old Courthouse and has a time of prayer for the community, the nation, and other spiritual needs.   This morning the prayers focused on the importance of Christians being lights for Jesus Christ in our communities, workplaces, schools, homes, neighborhoods, and everywhere we go.  The prevailing heart cry was for the light to shine for the glory of God.  May we take this prayer and live it throughout this week.  Jesus said in Matthew 5:14-16, “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.  Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

This past weekend was our Marriage Retreat in Gatlinburg and we had a great time together as we studied and discussed oneness in marriage.  It is always a lot of fun getting together with others from the church in a relaxed setting like Gatlinburg.  It is also great to get away as couples and focus on building stronger marriages and relationships.  Pray for all our married couples as they grow in the oneness that comes through marriage as “the two become one.”

I remind you to carry your TureLife.org cards with you this week and invite people you come in contact with to join you for church at FBC Carthage.  People will respond and come as we are faithful in inviting them.

It is hard to believe but the high schools and universities will have graduations in less than a month.  Our Graduate Recognition Sunday will be May 3 with a presentation in both morning services and a church-wide luncheon in honor of our graduates following.  Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish for the luncheon and join together as we congratulate the graduates.   Listed below are the names of both the high school and college graduates.  Also, graduates are asked to get pictures to Bro. Jeff for the time of recognition.  If there are other graduates connected to FBC Carthage who are not listed, please contact Bro. Jeff or call the church office at 615.735.1929.  The 2015 Graduates are:
          High School Graduates
Seth Agee, Peyton Azbell , Mason Dillon, Wes Dunbar , Tre’ Gammons,
Tanner Hackett
          College/Trade School Graduates
Leah Bane, Tommy Lee Bane, Timmy Bush, Katie Daugherty,

A follow-up to our special prayer request for Brad Tackett; he is home from the hospital and doing much better.  Thank you for your continued prayers for him and his family.

Have a blessed week,
Bro. Tim

Here’s the news for the week:
·        The Youth will have a special Movie Night this Friday, April 24 at 6:00 PM in the Youth Room.

·        The deadline for deposits and sign-up forms for both the Centri-Kid Children’s Camp, June 13-17 and the Centrifuge Youth Camp, July 6-11 is this coming Sunday, April 26.   See Bro. Jeff Hall to register or for more information.

·        The Church Council will meeting this Sunday, April 26 at 4:30 PM.  The main item of discussion will be a special focus on the Sunday evening services through the Summer months.  For the past few years we have included several special events through the Summer on Sunday nights.  If you have ideas or would like to have input, contact Bro. Tim or any member of the Church Council.

·        Our next Mission Montana Planning Meeting will be Sunday, May 3 at 4:00 PM in the Sunday School classroom just off the Sanctuary.  All team members are needed as we finalize the plans for this trip to FBC Poplar, Montana.  Our main work will be conducting Vacation Bible School for the Native American children.

·        This would be a good week to invite someone to join you for Sunday School.  If you have been missing a class member, call them and let them know.  Encourage them to be with you on Sunday.  Sunday School offers a great opportunity for Christian fellowship as well as deeper and more interactive Bible study.  Make plans to be in a Sunday School class this Sunday at 9:30 AM.
