FBC Carthage E-News for October 13, 2014

FBC Carthage E-News
October 13, 2014

Good morning,

Preparation is underway for our Fall Revival with Brent Gambrell and Dave Hunt.  Jeff and I met with Brent last week to discuss the week and pray together.  It is going to be a great time of inspiration and revival as these two men come to lead us in worship and the Word.  I hope you have the week on November 2-5 marked on your calendar for our Fall Revival.  Begin now to invite people to come with you for these special services.  Also, be praying for those people you have included on your Operation Andrew prayer challenge.  Every day we pray for these individuals, look for opportunities to build relationships, and invite them to church, Sunday School, and especially the revival services.

During the week of October 26-31,  I ask our Adult Sunday School classes to host special cottage prayer meetings in homes to pray and prepare our hearts for the revival services.   The extra emphasis on prayer helps us focus on the fact that revival and the movement of God on a congregation is in the spiritual realm.  We can organize, invite, and plan but what we need for true revival is the Holy Spirit of God to move in our hearts and lives.

I include these introduction videos for Brent and Dave in case you missed them last week:

A “Thank You” goes to all the Sunday School classes who served during the five 5th Quarter Youth Fellowships during the Smith County High School football regular season.  The deserts were delicious and we had great help with the students.

Please pray for a series of revivals being held in Cincinnati, Ohio next week, October 19-22.  Several from our church and Association will be traveling up for the week to conduct these revival services as part of our partnership with the Cincinnati Baptist Association.

Also, pray for our Church Secretary, Deborah Weaver, as she has surgery this week and will be out for several weeks of recovery.

Early voting for the Fall 2014 Election begins this Wednesday, October 15.  Many have found early voting to be a helpful way to get to the polls.  In fact, I was told that over 60% of the votes cast in the last election were during the early voting period of time.  To vote early, simply go to the Turner Building off Spring Street and you will see signs for the voting.

As you vote I remind you of the opportunity we have to make a true difference in the state of Tennessee through voting for Amendment 1.  This amendment is an important issue regarding the health and safety of women and the right to life.  I received a whole packet of information this week from the Tennessee Baptist Convention on the impact of this vote and the importance to vote for the Amendment.  There are many confusing and misleading ads on the local TV stations so I encourage you to be selective where you get your information.  The best coverage I have seen was in the Baptist and Reflector paper from the Tennessee Baptist Convention.  If you haven’t read the articles, take a few minutes to become an informed voter.  You can find the Baptist and Reflector articles online on pages 3 and 7 of the virtual newspaper:  http://www.myvirtualpaper.com/doc/tennessee-baptist-convention/digital9-24-14/2014092301/?referrer=http%3A//www.tnbaptist.org/BRNews.asp#0

          Have a blessed week,
Bro. Tim

Here’s the news for the week:

1.     The Senior Adult Fellowship will travel next Tuesday, October 14 to Shaker Village near Boiling Green, Kentucky.  We will have lunch at Cracker Barrel and then a shopping adventure at the new Cabela’s Outfitters Store.  We will leave from the church at 8:00 AM.  Even if you haven’t signed up, join us in the church parking lot across Main Street for this fun outing.

2.     The Community Backpack ministry will be packing food for backpacks this afternoon, Monday, October 13 beginning at 4:30 PM at the Ag Center.  I have received to messages this morning from Glenda Baker, the volunteer coordinator, asking for assistance in this effort.  Each week 250 students in Smith County receive a bag of food in their backpacks to eat during the weekend.

3.     The FBC Carthage Operation Christmas Child Kick-off will be Sunday,  October 26.  Now is a good time to begin gathering toys and supplies to pack your shoebox.  In addition, we will have a Shoebox Packing Party on Wednesday, November 12.

4.     The Children’s Fall Festival will be held on Wednesday, October 29 from 5:30 -7:30 PM.  Activities for the preschool and elementary children will be held in the Christian Life Center while activities for the Youth students will be held in the Youth Room.  Invite your friends to join you for this fun-filled event.  As always, the Skit Guys have some funny promotion videos for the Fall Festival:

5.     During the Sunday evening service we studied Jesus’ parable of the Prodigal Son found in Luke 15.  We close this E-News with a beautiful song of God’s faithfulness:
