FBC Carthage E-News for July 21, 2014

FBC Carthage E-News
July 21, 2014

Good Morning,

Wow!  Last week was quite a week in many different ways.  For the youth and leaders at Student Life Camp in Daytona it was a week of worship and study on the theme “Who Do You Say I Am?”  Jesus’ question to the disciples. There were several challenges on the trip, including a thief breaking in the van on the last night in Georgia, but the group had a great trip as they grew closer to the Lord and each other.

Last nig ht’s showing of the movie, “God’s Not Dead” was a great event with well over 100 people in attendance.  For those in attendance, I encourage you to send a text to people you know and say, “God’s Not Dead.”

It was a blessing to have Izzy, Ben, and Cassandra Gates with us yesterday in worship, Sunday School, and at the movie.  We received a love offering for Izzy and her family which will go into a special account set up at Community Bank.  If you would like to contribute you can bring your gift to the church office or simply go by Community Bank.

We praise the Lord as Bro. Jerry Wilmore has his final radiation treatment today!  This has been a long road for Jerry, Cindy, and Clayton.  Continue to pray for them in the next several weeks of recovery and strength.  I have been praying through the Psalms for Jerry and God’s healing in his body.  Last week Psalm 40 and 42 were especially impressed upon my heart and mind.
“I waited patiently for the Lord and He inclined to me and heard my cry.  He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet on a rock, and established my steps.  He has put a new song in my        mouth – Praise to our God; Many will see it and fear, and will trust in the    Lord.           (Psalm 40:1-2)”

I am also happy to share that Mrs. Erlene Robinson is out of the hospital and in rehab at Richland Place in Nashville.

Last week we mentioned a special vote in the Smith County Commission meeting and I am glad to report that they voted to keep the alcohol setbacks the same and not reduce the regulations on selling beer.   They also voted to support Amendment 1 on the ballot in November which allows Tennessee to place regulations and common sense safeguards on abortion practices.  I am praying for the day when the slaughter of innocent children in the womb (estimated over 60 million in the United States since 1973) is completely ended.  We cannot sit idle and pretend nothing is wrong.  We must not stop the fight for the rights and life of the unborn children.   For more information on Amendment 1 go to:  http://factn.org/tennessee-amendment-1/

You and I are to be salt and light in our community, making a difference in the name of Jesus.  Let your light shine this week for Him.

Have a blessed week,
Bro. Tim

Here’s the news for the week:

1.     The Backyard Bible Clubs come to a close this week on Tuesday, July 22 with two special Block Parties.  The first Block Party with inflatables, refreshments, and fun will be held at Project Circle from 1-3 PM.  The second Block Party will be held at the South Carthage Housing Projects from 4-6 PM.  Volunteers are needed at both of these End of Summer Block Parties.  All you have to do is come.

2.     The Church-wide Camping Trip will begin this Friday, July 25!  FBC Carthage has reserved eight spaces on the lake at Defeated Creek Campground for our first camping trip as a church family.  There are still spaces available for you to join us with your RV or in a tent.  Call the church office 735-1929 to reserve a spot.  In addition to camping, we will have activities on Saturday, July 26 for everyone to join in.  We will conduct a Backyard Bible Club for the children in the Campground at 10:00 AM at the large Pavilion just outside the Campground.   Following the Bible Club we will gather at the Pavilion for a cook-out at 12 Noon and eat around 1:00 PM.  The church will furnish hot dogs and hamburgers and a big cooler of ice cold lemonade.  Everyone is asked to bring a dish or two to share and  your favorite soft drinks.  The afternoon will be spent with lake activities, visiting together, and enjoying the day.

4.     The Smith County Fair will be July 28-August 2 and FBC Carthage will have a ministry booth in the exhibit area from 5:30-8:00 PM each evening.  This ministry booth is a great opportunity for our church to reach out into our community.   The Sunday School classes will be leading the work each of the nights.  FBC Carthage will provide your entrance on the night you work in the booth.  Simply enter the Fair through the back gate and let Deborah Weaver, our Church Secretary, know you are working in the booth.  Be sure and wear your ministry t-shirt on the night you work in the booth.
