FBC Carthage E-News for September 9, 2013

FBC Carthage E-News

September 9, 2013

Good morning,

This week we are focusing on missions in the state of Tennessee through the Tennessee Baptist Convention. The Golden Offering for Tennessee Missions will be a special offering we receive through the month of September. Some of the mission efforts this offering goes for includes new church starts, ministry to the needy, and work through the Baptist Collegiate Ministries. For more information on Tennessee Missions and this special offering go to: http://www.tnbaptist.org/page.asp?page=127.

This Friday, September 13 will be a 5th Quarter Youth Fellowship following the football game. We will have food and games for the students, grades 7-12. Bro. Shane Ray, Youth Pastor at Hillcrest Baptist in Lebanon will be our guest speaker. Help pass the word of the 5th Quarter Fellowship.

This Sunday, September 15 is National Back to Church Day. The emphasis is to have the largest number of people across the United States attending church services. Every one of our members are asked and encouraged to attend this Sunday. This would be a great week for Sunday School classes to contact all members and encourage their attendance this coming Sunday. I also encourage every member to invite at least one friend or family member to attend with them this week. Let’s make the commitment to be “Back in Church” this Sunday, September 15!

The church Facebook page and services online are being well received. Each week the Facebook page has hundreds of visits and last week’s service had 105 visits itself. It is exciting to branch out into a whole new ministry area through technology. You can also view the services through the link on the church web site www.fbccarthage.com.

The renovations of the Education Building will be continuing as we repaint the hallways and replace the flooring. We hope to do the painting ourselves and will need volunteers for this project. If you would like to volunteer, send an email response or contact the church office at 735-1929.

Speaking of renovations, the Kitchen Committee will bring a recommendation for new kitchen equipment to the church business meeting this Wednesday, September 11. It is exciting to see the improvements in the facilities.

Please pray for our nation and elected officials this week as they meet, discuss and make decisions regarding our military response in Syria. Every event in that part of the world should cause us to pray for God’s will and directions for all involved. I am reminded of the importance of prayer for our peace of mind and strength of heart as I read Philippians 4:6-7 which says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Have a blessed week,

Bro. Tim

Here’s the news for the week:

1. We are happy to have Lexi Felts come for membership yesterday in the second service. Lexi is one of the students who trusted in Christ at our first 5th Quarter Youth Fellowship. Pray for her as she follows the Lord in Believer’s Baptism.

2. The Senior Adults will meet on Tuesday, September 10 at 5:30 PM in the church parking lot to travel to New Middleton Baptist Church for an Association-Wide Senior Adult Fish Fry. The New Salem Association is supplying all the meal so all we have to do is attend. Our Men’s Quintet will be presenting the program for this event.

3. Tonight, September 9 volunteers are needed at 5PM at the Ag Center to help fill backpacks for the area school children. This Backpack Program provides meals each weekend for over 100 children in Smith County.

4. Wednesday, September 11 will be another opportunity to help feed the hungry through the Second Harvest Food Truck at the Ag Center. Volunteers are needed at 11AM with distribution beginning around 12 noon. To help, simply show up at the Ag Center and the people there will guide you in the process.

5. The Youth will be going bowling this Saturday, September 14 at 12 noon. Meet at the church and we will travel to Lebanon for fun and food. They also will have an after-church luncheon together at one of the local restaurants on Sunday, September 21. See Bro. Jeff on Wednesday night for more information.

6. During the month of September the Women on Mission group will be collecting recipes and compiling a cookbook. Your recipes are needed for this project and the proceeds will go to help provide needed resources for the First Baptist Church in Poplar, Montana as they minister to the Native American children. Forms to submit your recipes are available in the front foyer and in the Connection Point.

7. Attention Fishermen! Lighthouse Christian Camp will be having a CATCH Kids Fishing Rodeo on Saturday, September 21 and they are needing fishermen and boats to take the children fishing. The fishing begins at 8 AM at Ragland Bottom Boat Ramp on Center Hill Lake. For more information contact Fran Tyson with Lighthouse Christian Camp at 615 597-1264.

8. A special Defeated Creek Clean-Up event will be help on Saturday, September 21 at 8 AM to help clean-up around the park and lake. As part of our partnership through the Association, Bro. 10. Our More Life witness training and visitation will continue next Sunday, September 15 at 3 PM. Teams made four visits yesterday afternoon.

11. We have had a couple of suspicious and potentially harmful emails circulating recently, supposedly from staff and church emails. If you receive anything from the church or one of the staff that looks suspicious, please let us know and delete it from your email. We will never ask for your email address or any of your passwords. We will not send information to you in any Google document file that you are told to open. It is always best to be safe rather than sorry with suspicious or unusual emails, even if they say they are from someone you know and trust.
