FBC Carthage E-News for August 19, 2013

FBC Carthage E-News
August 19, 2013

Good Morning,

Wow! Another record night last night in AWANA with 70 children and a total of 104 present!  Spread the word to all children and youth, ages 3 through 12th grade about AWANA each Sunday at 5:30 pm.  These are exciting days at FBC Carthage.

The big event for this week is the first home football game of the season.  Smith County High School will be playing Alcoa High School this Friday night, August 23 at 7:00 PM.  Immediately following the game we will have the first of our 5th Quarter Youth Fellowships for students grades 7th - 12th.  There will be food, games, and an inspirational speaker.  The 5th Quarter Fellowships begin immediately after the football game and concludes around 11:30 pm.  Invite the students you know to join us for this exciting event.

This year we will have five regular schedule home games and hopefully several post-season games.  The dates for the home games and the 5th Quarter Fellowships will be:
August 23                   Smith County vs Alcoa
September 13             Smith County vs Cookeville
October 18                  Smith County vs Cannon County
October 25                  Smith County vs Macon County
November 1                Smith County vs Dekalb County

There are several areas of ministry that you can be involved during the 5th Quarter Fellowships.  Help is needed in the Security Team, Food Team, and Volleyball Team.  See Jeff Hall to be a part of this great ministry to the youth of the community.

This week is also when many of our college students will be moving to their dorms and apartments in preparation for classes starting next week.  This is an important step for these students as they begin a new chapter in their journey.  I have included a list of our college and university students for you to pray for this semester.  It is important for us as their church family to pray for the students and their parents during the college years.

I remind you of the message yesterday and the challenge to make a difference in someone’s life.  Your prayers for these college students may be the beginning of making that difference in one of these young adult’s lives.  Allow the Lord to use you in the lives of others for His glory.

Have a blessed week,
Bro. Tim

Here’s the News for the week:
1.     Two Upcoming Events for Sunday School Teachers:
·       The annual Sunday School University training conference will be held Thursday, August 22 at FBC Gordonsville.  This conference will begin at 6:30 pm and will offer sessions for teachers of each age-group.  In fact, this will be one of only eight conferences offered in the state this year for Sunday School workers.  Let’s all plan to attend this time of training and inspiration for the new year.
·       Our annual Sunday School Teacher Breakfast will be Sunday, August 25 at 9:30 am in the Christian Life Center.  Enlist your assistant teacher to teach on that Sunday and join us for a morning of food, fellowship, and preparation for the new Sunday School year.

2.     An opportunity for outreach will be a Fall Visitation Emphasis titled “More Life.”  We will begin this Sunday, August 25 at 3:00 pm in the Youth Room below the Sanctuary.  There will be a short time of study and preparation before we depart for visits in the community.  We will make visits to members, recent guests, and other families connected to our church.  The goal will be to reach out to them through our church and look for opportunities to share the gospel.  I encourage Sunday School classes to have a team each week to go out and make visits for their class.

3.     Mark your calendars for Sunday, September 1 as we have an Afternoon Singing and Dinner on the Grounds.  We will have a church-wide covered dish luncheon at 12 Noon after the second service in the Christian Life Center.  After lunch, around 1:00 pm, we will have a special singing service led by our Men’s Quintet.  Invite your family and friends to join you for this special “Afternoon Singing and Dinner on the Grounds.”

4.     We had 15 campers join in the service at Defeated Campground this past Sunday.  Thank you to Phillip Slagle for leading this service.

5.     The word is beginning to spread of the morning services being broadcast on DTC channel 3 and channel 303 each Sunday morning at 10:30 am.  If you know persons at home on Sundays, invite them to join us.  We are also broadcasting our services on FM Radio 104.1 The Ranch each Sunday at 10:45 am.

6.     Our Senior Adult Fellowship will be traveling to New Middleton Baptist Church on Tuesday, September 10 for an Association-wide Senior Adult Fish Fry.  The Dinner begins at 6:00 pm and we will plan to leave from FBC Carthage at 5:30 pm.

7.      We are looking into a new ministry opportunity in which we can include Bible Study videos on the family, marriage, and other life topics through the e-news.  If this sounds like a resource you would like to receive each week or month, let Bro. Tim or Bro. Jeff know.  You can see us, send an e-mail response, or text.

8.     In our recent messages on angels, a question of clarification was asked about the three heavens: sky, space, and the dwelling place of God.  Here is a Biblical resource that may be of help:  http://www.blueletterbible.org/faq/don_stewart/stewart.cfm?id=151
