FBC Carthage E-News
August 12, 2013
Good morning,
It has been an exciting weekend as we had a group of twelve travel to Cincinnati, Ohio to help conduct a neighborhood block party at McKelvy Road Baptist Church. Our New Salem Baptist Association is in partnership with the Cincinnati Baptist Association. In the past few months we have had five or six mission trips to Cincinnati. During this weekend’s block party many new families from the community came by the church and participated. The best news was that one of the ladies who came was saved!
Speaking of our New Salem Baptist Association, we are blessed to be a part of a mission-minded association of churches who reach out to the local community as well as have mission involvement in places like Cincinnati. Bro. Marty Dodge is our DOM (Director of Missions) and he is doing a great job in leading us as an association. This week is the week of prayer and emphasis for our local Baptist association. Take a few minutes to pray for the ten churches and one mission, the pastors, and Bro. Marty as we work together to reach Smith County for Jesus.
One of our big community outreach ministries is the 5th Quarter Youth Fellowships following each home football game. There will be food, games, and an inspirational speaker at each 5th Quarter Fellowship. The event begins immediately after the football game and concludes around 11:30 PM. This year we will have five regular schedule home games and hopefully several post-season games. The dates for the home games and the 5th Quarter Fellowships will be:
August 23 Smith County vs Alcoha
September 13 Smith County vs Cookeville
October 18 Smith County vs Cannon County
October 25 Smith County vs Macon County
November 1 Smith County vs Dekalb County
There are several areas of ministry that you can be involved during the 5th Quarter Fellowships. See Jeff Hall to be a part of this great ministry to the youth of the community.
Another opportunity for outreach will be a Fall Visitation Emphasis titled “More Life.” We will begin on Sunday, August 25 at 3:00 PM in the Youth Room below the Sanctuary. There will be a short time of study and preparation before we depart for visits in the community. We will make visits to members, recent guests, and other families connected to our church. The goal will be to reach out to them through our church and look for opportunities to share the gospel. I encourage Sunday School classes to have a team each week to go out and make visits for their class.
Pray for my family this week as we gather for a memorial service on Thursday for my brother-in-law, Bill Reinhart. Bill died last week on a farm-related accident in Shelbyville. He had one daughter and one grandson.
Have a blessed week,
Bro. Tim
Here’s the news for the week:
1. The Backpack Program will be meeting today at 5:00 PM at the Ag Center to fill food packs for needy children in Smith County. Each weekend these food packs are placed in the needy children’s backpacks and sent home to provide food for them. This is a great way to minister to the children in our community. Volunteers are needed to fill the food packs. Come and join in this ministry.
2. Another way we can help the needy is to volunteer this Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the Ag Center for the monthly Second Harvest Food Truck. A truck load of produce, milk, bread and other perishable foods will be brought to the Ag Center to be boxed up and give to the needy in our community. Come and be a part of this community outreach. For those needing a box of food, the distribution will begin around 12:30 PM.
3. The Senior Adult Fellowship will meet this Tuesday at 11:30 PM in the Christian Life Center. All adults, 55+ are invited to bring a covered dish and join us for a time of fellowship and inspiration.
