Happy Memorial Day,

Today is a holiday that to many signals the beginning of summer, yet it has a much deeper meaning and purpose.  One this Memorial Day we remember our servicemen and women who serve, especially those who have given their lives for our country.  We also remember our own loved ones who have passed in death.  With all the fun and excitement associated with Memorial Day, let us also be reminded of the true purpose of the holiday for one day we too must pass the way of death and it is a good time to consider, “Are you ready?”  That is why Jesus came, lived, died, and rose again; to provide a way of hope and life through faith in Him.

The Memorial Day Picnic was one of the best picnics I have every attended.  The weather was perfect.  The food was delicious.  The kick-ball game was intense.  The new “string band” and music was awesome.  The fellowship was great.  It is a blessing to get together and have time to spend with one another.  That is what “church” is all about; relationships.  Our relationship with God and our relationships with others.

Welcome and congratulations to Bengi Abbitt, Harley Hoffman, and Tater Hoffman on their baptism yesterday in the 10:45 AM service.  Be praying for these new believers as they follow Jesus.

The Youth ReFuel Mission/Ministry Week begins tomorrow, May 28 thru Friday, May 31.  Youth and available adults will meet in the Christian Life Center at 8:00 AM each morning for refreshments and Bible Study.  Tuesday the projects will be at Lighthouse Christian Camp.  Wednesday they will be at Lock 7 Park.  Thursday and Friday there will be teams going to various locations in Smith County to serve individuals and groups.  Join the effort by coming to the CLC at 8:00 AM with a willing spirit to serve.

This is an exciting week of missions as Brad Tackett’s Sunday School Class and Samantha Upchurch’s Sunday School Class travel to Indiana for a weekend mission trip.  Pray for the class members as they travel and serve.

Please pray for Colton Ferrel on Tuesday, May 28 as he has the first of a series of surgeries.  Pray for Matt and Amanda, his parents, as well as the whole family.
Have a great week and pause a moment today and remember – Memorial Day,
Bro. Tim

Here is the news for the week:
1.      Brad Tackett led the Defeated Creek Campground Service yesterday with 50 in attendance!

2.      Be praying and preparing for Vacation Bible School, June 10-14.  We will have a Kick-off  Carnival on Sunday, June 9 at 6:00 AM with inflatables, food, games, and prizes.  There will also be opportunities to register the children for VBS.  There are a few helper positions remaining and you are still needed if you haven’t yet signed-up.  Contact Kristina Hall, Bro. Jeff, Bro. Tim or call the church office.

3.     The Church Council will meet this Sunday, June 2 at 4:30 PM and the Deacons will meet at 7:00 PM.

4.     There is still room for you and your family to go to Dollywood on Thursday, June 6.  We will leave from the church parking lot at 7:00 AM.  You can buy your tickets at the gate.   Contact the church office if you want to ride on the church bus.

5.     You can be a part of the Mission Montana effort by contributing prizes for the family carnival night we will host while we are there. We need lots of toys and small prizes that we'll give to the children as they participate in the games. Check out the display in the Connection Point for more information. Parents, we'll be collecting from the children during VBS like we did last year, so you may want to go ahead and lead your child in preparing for that giving and then have him/her wait to bring those prizes during VBS. LoveLOUD by being a part of the mission work with the Native American children in Poplar, Montana.

6.     Backyard Bible Clubs will begin on Tuesday in June and July at Project Circle and we have the opportunity to minister to the children and families.  This local mission effort has been a blessing as we feed the children, lead in a craft, and teach a Bible story.  Helpers are needed for this effort and you can see Anna Maxwell or contact the church office at 735-1929.  The Backyard Bible Clubs meet each Tuesday at 4:30 -6:00 PM.

7.     In addition to printed tracts which share the gospel, there are also video “tracts” which share.  Here is one of my favorite sites through the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association:  http://peacewithgod.jesus.net/
