Happy Valentine’s Week,

This week there will be much said about showing your love to friends and family.  Florists and other store owners will be extremely busy as people look for that perfect gift to express their affections.   I encourage you to let those in your life know how much you love them this week, and then keep it going throughout the year.  As Christians, we are commanded by Jesus to “love one another” in John 13:34-35.   In the list of the fruit of the Spirit, the first evidence of the Spirit-controlled life is love (Galatians 5:22-23).  Expressing love for others during Valentine’s Week is good, yet expressing love and compassion all year long is even better.  It is not a matter of either Valentine’s Week or year-long expressing love to others, it is both this week and throughout the year expressing your love and compassion to those around you.  Happy Valentine’s Week!

One resource I refer couples to frequently is The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman.  The book is worth the price and time to read it for the insights it can give in your relationships to people.  Here is a brief synopsis of the five love languages with thoughts on how to express love each language:

This weekend will be our Couples Dinner on Friday, February 15 at 6:30 PM.  Robbie’s Catering is preparing a delicious meal for the couples and David Turner, a ventriloquist from Alexandria is bringing the special program, “Valentines for Dummies.”  If you have not signed up, contact the church today at 735-1929 and get your name on the list.  The cost for the evening is $20 per couple.

Pray for the Personnel Committee this week as they meet on Tuesday night, February 12.  Prayer is an important part of this search process and the committee needs everyone to join together and pray for God’s guidance, direction, and discernment.

A special “Thank You” goes to all those who organized, promoted, and participated in the mission project to the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home last Friday.  We had a great time with the children and they seemed to really enjoy the meal, crafts, and program.  The Children’s Home is a great ministry and I am glad we can be directly connected through our mission efforts.

Please pray for Baby Colton Ferrell this week.  He is scheduled for surgery on Thursday, February 14.  Pray that his pneumonia is completely cleared and that he is able to have this surgery as scheduled. Pray also for his family, Matt and Amanda Ferrell , and John and Rhonda Ethridge.

Have a blessed week as you express your love to others,
Bro. Tim
(Valentine’s Day is Thursday!)

Here’s the news of the week:
1.      The Senior Adult Fellowship for adults 55+ will meet this Tuesday, February 12 at 11:30 AM in the Christian Life Center.  Bring a covered dish and a picture of you and your spouse during your dating or early marriage years.

2.      The Children’s Choir will begin meeting this Wednesday, February 13 at 6:30 PM.  The choir is for children, preschool through 6th Grade.  They will be working toward their special program on Sunday, April 28.

3.      Children’s Church is a great ministry and blessing for the children, ages 3-1st grade, during the Sunday Morning services.  Thank you to all those who serve in this important and vital ministry.  The workers in the 10:45 Service rotate on a month by month basis.  If you would be willing to be a part of this ministry, contact the church office at 735-1929 or see Chandelle Hackett for more information.

4.     Here are two community ministry opportunities this week:
·        Smith County Backpack Program will be packing backpacks on Tuesday evening, February 12, at 5 PM at the Smith County Ag Center.  Volunteers are needed.  Many hands make light work.

·        Second Harvest Mobile Food Pantry will be at Smith County Ag Center this Wednesday, February 13, at 11 AM.  Volunteers are needed to help unload the truck and pack boxes of food for distribution.  Also, if you know any family needing food, please tell them about this ministry.

5.      Our FBC Adopted Missionaries’ Kid is Zach Brubaker, and his birthday is  March 3rd. Last year, we sent him a generous variety of gift cards and home-baked cookies. This year, the plan is to collect money and purchase one (still generous, hopefully) VISA gift card to send to him from our church family. Zach is a Senior at Carson-Newman University, majoring in physics and chemistry. As he completes his work at CNU and heads to graduate school, we believe a gift card that he can use like cash may meet needs such as clothes for interviews, travel expenses, books, etc. Pray about what God wants you to give. Zach’s parents, Steven and Celeste Brubaker, serve as International      Mission Board missionaries in Germany. By remembering Zach on his birthday, we honor their selfless service in God's Kingdom. There will be donation boxes in the foyer and Connection Point on Sunday mornings February 17 and February 24. You may also give by using a pew envelope and writing Zach's name on the envelope.

6.     Speaking of our college students, Bro. Tim is working on his annual College Road Trip and scheduling lunches and dinners with the students on the different campuses across the state.   The plan is to visit the students before their Spring Break.  If you can help organize the stop on your campus send him an email to tfrank@fbccarthage.com.

7.      Here is one more video from the Skit Guys for you on Valentine’s Day:
