FBC Carthage E-News
January 7, 2013
Good Morning,
Yesterday was a great
beginning to a new year of worship services as we observed the baptism of Tyler
Hackett, worshipped the Lord in song, paused for a call to prayer for the lost,
began a new series in James entitled “Live It”, and had a strong start to a new
semester in AWANA. May this year be
focused on living our faith in Jesus Christ and sharing the good news with
those around us who do not know Him as Savior and Lord.
There is a state-wide /
nation-wide emphasis on reaching people for Jesus in 2013. The sense of urgency and the desperation for
God to do a great work in our homes, churches, cities, and nation is evident in
everything I am reading. We need the
Lord to stir His passion and fire in our hearts which burns away any sense of
apathy, complacency, and lack of compassion for people. In reading through the Bible today, I read of
the judgment and destruction on Sodom and Gomorrah. What
struck me was that destruction came, not because of their wickedness but
because of the lack of righteous people living in those cities. In Genesis 18, Abraham is talking to the Lord
about the coming judgment and the Lord says He will not bring destruction if
there are ten righteous people in those cities.
Just ten. But the righteous were
not found. Revival and renewal always
begins with God’s people. May it begin
with me, and you, and our church, and our city.

Speaking of a call to
prayer, each Wednesday and Sunday night we have a special time of personal prayer
prior to the services. This time is for
you to come and pray. You can pray in
the pews or you can come to the altar area.
On Wednesday’s this prayer time is from 6:00-6:20 PM. On Sunday it is from 5:30-5:50 PM. Our desire is to make FBC Carthage a House of
Prayer. If you have suggestions to
strengthen our prayer times please share those with me. We are on this Christian journey together.
As you pray this week,
baby Britt Roney’s heart surgery had to be postponed today and will be reschedule
a later date this week. Also, baby
Colton Ferrell’s surgery is rescheduled for later in January. Continue to pray for Britt, Colton, and their
families as they await the new schedules.
Also pray for the many in our church and community who continue to
battle the flu, pneumonia, and other major illness.
I hope you are enjoying the
New Year and have made a great start in reading through the Bible in 2013. It is never too late to start on this
exciting journey through God’s word. This
year the readings include Old Testament and New Testament reading for each day
and the list of passages can be found online by going to www.biblegateway.com and clicking on Reading Plans. If you like, they will send the daily
readings to your e-mail inbox each morning.
Have a blessed week as you
live out your faith in Jesus,
Bro. Tim

are a great help for working parents bringing their children to Wednesday night
activities and are also available for delivery to shut-ins in our church and
community. If you know of a shut-in who would benefit from a meal on
