Happy New Year!

The New Year is always an exciting time for me as we begin a fresh, new 12-months of ministry and service for the Lord. In the next 365 days we will have many opportunities to touch the lives of people with the gospel of Jesus Christ. There will be mission trips, Sunday School class projects, church-wide mission offerings, revivals, Vacation Bible School, youth camp, and many more activities and events to exalt the name of Jesus. There will also be personal relationships that are built and strengthened through which you will have the opportunity to share Christ. This year will also be the year we begin to see our Connection Groups started in homes, businesses, schools, and communities. These Connection Groups will be for the purpose of taking the gospel to the people around us and sharing with them the hope we have in Jesus.

Each year I encourage you to join me on a journey, a journey in reading through the entire Bible. This year we will include the monthly reading list in the bulletin on the last Sunday of the month. You can also read through the Bible online by going to www.biblegateway.com and clicking on Reading Plans. If you like, they will send the daily readings to your e-mail inbox each morning. If you have never read through the Bible, this is the best time to start. If you, like many, read through the scriptures each year, have a great journey.

It was great to see and hear Zeke and Layne Tomaselli this past Sunday. Pray for them as they continue their training in Las Vegas and as they prepare to move to Hawaii and plant Ohana Church in August 2013. With the emphasis on church planting throughout the Southern Baptist Convention, this is an opportunity for us to be involved and better understand the church planting process. You can be added to the Ohana Church weekly prayer update by sending a request to info@ohanachurch.com.

We had a successful mission trip this week to the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home. I am glad we have this annual mission project during the Christmas/New Years break. Thanks to all who participated in this two-day effort. To learn more about the TBC Children’s Home go to www.tbch4kids.org. My parents worked at the Baptist Children’s Home in Franklin when I was born. It has a special place in my life.

Pray for two of our Preschool children as they undergo surgery. Colton Ferrell will have surgery on Wednesday, January 2 and Britt Roney on January 7. Both surgeries will be at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.

Have a blessed week as you begin this New Year,
Bro. Tim

Here’s the news:
1. Our Wednesday Night Family Meals will not begin this week due to the flu. The meals will begin next Wednesday, January 9 with serving from 5:00-6:00 PM. In addition to a great meal at a reasonable price ($3 adults, $2 children), the Wednesday Night Meals also provide a great time to fellowship and get to know other members of FBC Carthage. They are a great help for working parents bringing their children to Wednesday night activities and are also available for delivery to shut-ins in our church and community. If you know of a shut-in who would benefit from a meal on Wednesday night, contact Melody Tackett or call the church office at 735-1929. Make your [plans to join us for dinner next week.

2. On Wednesday, January 9 the Sanctuary Choir will begin rehearsing. The choir has been a great blessing in the services during the Christmas season. This would be a great time for you to join the choir. They meet at 7:30 PM on Wednesday nights, just after the Prayer Service.
