FBC Carthage E-News July 30, 2012

FBC Carthage E-News

July 30, 2012

Good Morning,

This is a big week at FBC Carthage and in Smith County;  a new school year begins and this is the week for the Smith County Fair.  The county school teachers have their joint in-service training today and we will host them for lunch.  It is an honor and privilege to bless these ones who give so much to teach and guide our children.  Pray for the teachers, administrators and students as the school year begins.

The Smith County Fair is a great opportunity to reach out to our community in the name of Jesus Christ.  We will have a ministry booth located in the commercial exhibits area next to the Community Bank stage.  This is our best location yet for the fair.  There will be many people coming to the stage area and we will have opportunity to share a cup of water, a hand fan, and have activities for the children.  The new part of our ministry booth this year will be a photo booth for people to have their picture made.  We will then send them a copy of their photo, along with a note from the church. Our ministry booth will be open each evening from 6:00 – 9:00 PM.  Those working in the booth are reminded to wear their brown “Compassion” t-shirt.  In fact, I encourage you to wear your t-shirt to the fair even on the nights you are not serving in the booth.  It will be a reminder that we are to always be ready to express compassion to those around us.

This week is also “moving time” for Zeke and Layne Tomaselli.  Please be remembering them in your prayers as they make this move to Las Vegas for a year of training in church planting, then on to Hawaii to begin a new church.  Pray for their house to sell quickly and for all the details of their transition to flow smoothly.

Speaking of transitions, continue to pray for our church during these days of transition.  Pray for the Youth Committee and parents as they provide leadership in the Youth Ministry.  Pray for those who will lead us in worship during this transition.  Pray for the Personnel Committee as they begin receiving resumes and seeking the Lord’s direction to the persons He has to lead in the music and youth areas.

On a personal note, if you are on Facebook, check out the pictures on my page of the raft flip on the Ocoee this past Saturday.

Have a blessed week as you serve the Lord,

Bro. Tim

Here’s the news for the week:

1.      We rejoice with Corrina Norman as she made her profession of faith yesterday in the early morning service.  Pray for Corrina as she grows in her faith and follows the Lord in believer’s baptism.

2.      Be sure and stop by the FBC Carthage Ministry Booth this week from 6:00 – 9:00 PM during the Smith County Fair.  Here are some of the activities we will be offering:

·        Free souvenir photo - bring your friends and family by and have your photo taken.

·        Free Beaded bracelets and zipper pulls - bring children and let them make a fair memento.

·        Free face painting - bring children by to get their faces stamped/painted.

·        Free Cold water - stop by for a good cold drink of water.

·        Free Bean bag tossing game - bring children by to let them toss beanbags and win a prize.

3.     AWANA, our children’s discipleship/Bible club will begin this Sunday night at 5:30 PM in the Christian Life Center.  Classes will be offered for children ages 2 through high school.  AWANA combines games, music and snacks with Bible study and Scripture memorization to make for an exciting night for the children.  Adults who are not involved in leading AWANA are encouraged and invited to the evening worship service each Sunday at 6:00 PM.  Click on this link to learn more about AWANA http://awana.org/welcometoawana/welcome-to-awana,default,pg.html.

4.      Ladies - James, Jesus' own brother, started out as a skeptic. Join an upcoming Beth Moore Bible study of the book of James and see how one glimpse of the resurrected Savior turned an unbeliever into a disciple. There will be a Tuesday evening study group at FBC Gordonsville and a Thursday morning study group at Carthage United Methodist Church. Member workbooks are available at our church for $15. Stop by the display in the Connection Point for more information.

5.     Families and Children - The Children’s Committee is organizing a trip to Dollywood on Saturday, August 11 for the children and families.  To sign-up, contact the church office at 735-1929 or see Fran Frank who is the contact for this trip.

6.     Two special events are coming up for Sunday School teachers:

·        On Sunday, August 19, we will have a teacher’s rally in the Christian Life Center at 9:30 AM.  During this time we will review curriculum options, discuss class organization, and make plans for the new Sunday School year.

·        Monday, August 20 will be the annual Sunday School University for our region.  There will be conferences for teachers of all age groups.  This meeting will be held at Stevens Street Baptist Church in Cookeville at 6:30 PM.

7.     Senior Adults – We will be traveling this month on two different occasions:

·        Friday, August 3 will be a lunch trip to Sutton’s Country Store in Granville.  We will leave from the church parking lot at 11:00 AM.

·        Tuesday, August 14 will be a special dinner trip to Hickman Baptist Church for a joint potluck fish fry and program with all the churches in the New Salem Association.  We will leave from the church parking lot at 5:15 PM.  The dinner begins at 6:00PM.

8.      The GA’s will be collecting school supplies during the first two weeks of August.  Boxes will be available at the doors for the supplies.
