FBC Carthage E-News for July 16, 2012

FBC Carthage E-News
July 16, 2012

 Good morning,

We had a great day yesterday as we said our “Good-byes” to Zeke and Layne Tomaselli.  A day like that is filled with many emotions and is best described as being “bitter-sweet.”  We will miss this fine couple as they go from us but we are excited to see all God is going to do through them as they move to start a new church in Hawaii.  Please pray for Zeke and Layne as they begin this new chapter in their lives.  They have a blog started which will help us stay informed and connected with them during the journey:  http://ohanachurchonline.blogspot.com/

Here is a video on church planting produced by the Baptist association on the Island of Hawaii.  The brown and green church in the video is the church Zeke’s dad started in Papaikou, HI, the town he and Layne will be moving to in 2013.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVH5SJYiZlQ

These are also exciting days to see what God is doing here at FBC Carthage and who He will send to serve and lead in the areas of youth and worship.  Pray for the Personnel Committee as they work, especially as they pray and seek God’s direction on the position(s).  The committee members are Philip Slagle, chairman, Brad Tackett, Jim Broyles, Ann Cole, Marreet Hutchins, and Tammie Key.

During the search process, we will seek an Interim worship leader to give direction in the music area.   The Youth Committee met last week and they, along with parents and youth leaders, will direct the Youth Ministry during these coming weeks.

There will be a Youth Parent’s meeting this Wednesday, July 18 at 8:00 PM in the Christian Life Center.  All parents are encouraged and asked to attend.  The Youth Committee met last week and has several ideas to share with the parents.  This time of transition is an opportunity for parents and leaders to “set-up” in their involvement and service to the youth.

Another area to pray for this week is the Camp Meeting in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut.  We have been praying for the Inuit people as our “unreached people group” for over a year and this week will be our first mission into the area.  The Camp Meeting will be Friday through Sunday and will be similar to what we would think of as a revival. Alec Sunrise and Alex Tambour are the two First Nations evangelists who will be leading the Camp Meeting.  A Prayer Guide has been prepared for this special event and can be found at the end of this E-News.

To undergird the Cambridge Bay Camp Meeting with prayer, we will have a 24-hour prayer vigil beginning this Wednesday at 5:00 PM and going until 5:00 PM on Thursday.  People have signed up to pray for the Camp Meeting during 1of the 24 hours.  The following hours are still available for you to join in this prayer effort:
          Wednesday, July 18       5:00 PM
         Wednesday, July 18       8:00 PM

          Thursday, July 19                   12:00 Noon
          Thursday, July 19                   1:00 PM
          Thursday, July 19                   2:00 PM
          Thursday, July 19                   3:00 PM
          Thursday, July 19                   4:00 PM

During the Mission Montana Vacation Bible School we saw many children receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.  This VBS was prayed over for many hours, before and during the event.  Prayer makes a difference.  Let’s do what we can in Carthage – PRAY - to see people come to know Jesus in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut.

Have a blessed week as you serve the Lord and pray for the many needs we have shared.

Bro. Tim

Here’s the news for the week:

1.      The youth and youth leaders gathered for a final service and fellowship with Zeke and Layne yesterday afternoon.  The highlight of the service was the baptism of four young men who had professed faith in Jesus Christ.  Those baptized were Zach and Andrew Layne, John Alan Harper, and Bryson Slagle.  Pray for these young men and the youth leaders as they grow in their walk with the Lord.

2.      A special thank you to the Hospitality Committee for hosting the after-church luncheon in honor of Zeke and Layne.

3.     The Senior Adult Fellowship will have a covered dish luncheon and program on Tuesday, July 17 at 11:30 AM.  Jerry Wilmore will be our guest speaker for the program.  All adults, 55 and over, are invited to bring a covered dish and join in this time of fellowship.

4.     The Smith County Fair will be July 30-August 4 and FBC Carthage will have a ministry booth each evening from 5:30 – 8:30 PM.  This would be a great mission opportunity for Sunday School classes to take a night and minister to the community.  Contact Bro. Tim to select the night which would be best for your class.

5.      We have the privilege to host the Smith County teachers for lunch on Monday, July 30.  The luncheon will be around 11:15 AM and volunteers are needed earlier that day to help prepare the food, decorate the tables, serve the meal, and clean-up.  To volunteer, contact Melody Tackett who will be coordinating this special event.

6.     The Children’s Committee is planning a family trip to Dollywood for Saturday, August 11.  We will plan to leave from the church at 6:00 AM and be back by 10:00 PM.  Children must be accompanied by a parent or a designated adult.  For more information see Fran Frank or your children’s Sunday School teacher.  Ticket cost is $42+tax for children and 54+tax for adults.

7.     Here is the Prayer Guide for you to use in praying for the Camp Meeting in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut.  A color, printed guide is also available at the Connection Point:

Our Journey Thus Far

December 2010
Bro. Tim introduces us to the Inuit people as our adopted Unreached People Group (UPG). We begin praying for God to lead us in this new mission effort.
December 2010
God leads us to make contact with Dr. David Sills, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary; Dr. Sills and a team of research assistants conducted research in Nunavut and filed a report with the NAMB in 2008.
March 2011
Dr. Sills comes to share with us concerning the Inuit people.
March 2011
God leads us to another contact Donny Coulter of the Canadian National Baptist Convention; he comes to share with us concerning the Inuit and Canadian ministry efforts.
January 2012
Donny Coulter emails to say that he met a man who has been invited to Nunavut to lead a camp meeting. Donny suggests that this may be our Person of Peace for whom we have been praying.  This person is Alec Sunrise.
July 2012
Alec Sunrise and Alex Tambour go to lead in a camp meeting in Cambridge Bay.

In Preparation for Your Prayer Time

Paper about the Inuit People

This paper entitled “Communicating the Gospel to the Inuit of Nunavut Canada”, written by a graduate student of Dr. Sills’ in 2008, will give you some insight into the Inuit people.

Video about Alec Sunrise

Before your prayer time, take a few minutes to watch this video about Alec Sunrise. It will help you pray more knowledgeably for him.

Scripture Calling FBC Carthage to be a House of Prayer

Pray that FBC Carthage will be a House of Prayer:

Mark 11:17: Then He taught, saying to them, “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations’? But you have made it a ‘den of thieves.”

Pray knowing that it is God’s will for the Inuit to be saved:

2 Peter 3:9:  The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us,[b] not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

Pray that North America will be healed as God’s people pray:

2 Chronicles 7:14: If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
