FBC Carthage E-News for June 11, 2012

FBC Carthage E-News

June 11, 2012

Good morning,

It is great to look outside and see the light rain falling. We have been needing rain for several weeks. It makes me stop for a moment and thank the Lord for His provisions for our basic needs. I thank Him for His care for His creation and I thank Him most of all for His Son, Jesus, through whom we have forgiveness and eternal life. Take some time today to talk with the Lord through prayer and thank Him for His many blessings. Praise Him for His goodness and mercy, grace and love. Worship Him as your Savior and Lord. We serve an awesome God!

I heard from Zeke this morning and everyone had a great, safe trip back from Italy. From the e-mails and messages from the team during last week, it seems like the Mission Italy Team had an awesome trip. They will be sharing in the 6:00 PM service this Sunday, June 17. We will also be having an Italian Pasta Night along with the service. It will all be held in the Christian Life Center and will begin with the meal. This will be a great time to hear their mission report and enjoy an Italian meal.

Zeke and Layne made their connection flights and are in Las Vegas this week for their week of assessment and training for their upcoming church planting adventure in Hawaii. Pray for Zeke and Layne this week that they may receive confirmation of God’s call on their lives. This is an important week for them and for their ministry. Pray for Zeke, especially, as he recovers from 25 hours of travel and attends the meetings and classes which began this morning at 8:00 AM.

Vacation Bible School had a great start last night with 93 children and 52 workers. That is a great start for an amazing week. The motto this week is: “Awesome God! Amazing Power!” If you would like to know more about the studies for the week you can go to: http://www.lifeway.com/vbs2012/amazing-wonders/

To see the Bible lessons the children are studying, click on the “Biblical Content for Children” button on that web site. An even better way to learn more would be to come tonight to VBS and be a part of this special week. VBS begins at 6:00 PM each evening this week through Thursday and there are classes for children ages 4 through High School. The children will present a Family Night Service on Thursday, June 14 at 7:30 PM.

Take a moment and pray for our Vacation Bible School. Below is a Prayer Guide to help direct your prayers through the week:

• Pray that compassion would fill the heart of every laborer.

• Pray for the laborer to share and serve as though he/she were doing it unto the Lord.

• Pray that the Gospel will be proclaimed boldly, compassionately, and clearly.

• Pray those who attend that are hungry for love and affirmation will find it not just from the VBS workers but in Jesus.

• Pray that when the ABC’s of becoming a Christian are presented, that will be done clearly, powered by the Holy Spirit and covered by prayer.

• Pray for those who have not responded to the Holy Spirit’s call. Pray for others who will be touched by the Holy Spirit.

• Pray that Christians will have a desire and confidence to share the Good News.

• Pray that VBS participants will become connected to the church for long term discipleship.

• Pray for Family Night Thursday, June 14th and the unchurched families that will come. Pray for them to feel welcomed, loved, and most of all to come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

Continue to pray for Josh Lynn and Taylor Reece in Nairobi, Kenya. From the reports I am hearing, it sounds like they are in the middle of their mission work during these next couple of weeks. Josh has been preaching in the Malindi area and Taylor has been working in an orphanage. They will be back on July 2 and will share of their experiences on Sunday, July 8 in the 6:00 PM service.

Speaking of missions, the Montana Mission Team is finalizing their plans for Vacation Bible School at the First Baptist Church in Poplar. This will be the first VBS we have done in several years on the reservation. It is always exciting to share the week with the children, get to know them, and see God’s word touch their hearts. We are collecting small toys to take for a community-wide carnival and feast night during the trip. Look through your toy boxes and bring some small toys this Sunday, June 17. An “advance team” will leave on June 22 and the team on Sunday, June 24.

Have a blessed week and remember to pray for the many mission related needs this week.

The Yellow Light
The light turned yellow, just in front of him.

He did the right thing, stopping at the crosswalk, even though he could have beaten the red light by accelerating through the intersection.

The tailgating woman was furious and honked her horn, screaming in frustration, as she missed her chance to get through the intersection, dropping her cell phone and makeup.

As she was still in mid-rant, she heard a tap on her window and looked up into the face of a very serious police officer.

The officer ordered her to exit her car with her hands up.

He took her to the police station where she was searched, fingerprinted, photographed, and placed in a holding cell.

After a couple of hours, a policeman approached the cell and opened the door. She was escorted back to the booking desk where the arresting officer was waiting with her personal effects.

He said, ''I'm very sorry for this mistake. You see, I pulled up behind your car while you were blowing your horn, flipping off the guy in front of you and cussing a blue streak at him. I noticed the 'What Would Jesus Do' bumper sticker, the 'Choose Life' license plate holder, the 'Follow Me to Sunday-School' bumper sticker, and the chrome-plated Christian fish emblem on the trunk, so naturally I assumed you had stolen the car.''
