FBC Carthage E-News for May 28, 2012

FBC Carthage E-News

May 28, 2012

Happy Memorial Day,

As the unofficial start of summer, today will be filled with picnics, cookouts, lake outings, and many fun activities. In the midst of these times with friends and family, I encourage you to pause and remember the focus of this day is to remember. Remember the men and women serving and who have served in the U.S. armed forces. Remember those who have given their lives for our freedoms. Remember loved ones who have passed away and the legacy they have left in your life. Remember the Lord Jesus Christ and the salvation, hope and life He has given through His death and resurrection. In all the fun, today is also a day to remember.

Thank you for your prayers for the New York Chainsaw Team. The trip was very successful and uneventful. The travel went very smoothly and the chainsaw work was completed by lunch on Thursday. The Lord bless the team with wonderful weather, cool and cloudy. The great blessing for me was the trip into the city on Tuesday night for the prayer service at the Brooklyn Tabernacle. If you are in New York City, I suggest this as one of your “must see” experiences. A special thank you goes to the men who participated in this mission effort.

Continue to pray for Taylor Reece and Josh Lynn as they serve in Nairobi, Kenya this summer.

The Mission Team to Naples, Italy will leave this Thursday, May 31. Be praying for them as they travel and serve in Italy. Be praying for the other youth and adults from Tennessee as they join together and form a team. This will be a life changing trip for many as they see lives touched and changed through the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Continue to pray for our Vacation Bible School, June 10-14. We will begin on Sunday evening and go through Thursday. A prayer calendar is available at the Connection Point. This is a great week to reach boys and girls in Smith County for Jesus.

Have a blessed and safe Memorial Day and a great week.
Bro. Tim

Here’s the news:
1. We welcome Zach and Andrew Layne as they recently made their Profession of Faith and will be following the Lord in believer’s baptism.

2. Deacons are reminded of a special called meeting this Wednesday, May 30 at 5:00 PM. We will be working through the deacon selection/election process.

3. The Senior Adult Fellowship will be traveling for supper the Friday, June 1 at 5:00 PM. We will go to Helen’s Restaurant in Gainesboro, Tennessee. Meet in the church parking lot across Main Street from the sanctuary.

4. Prizes Needed for Poplar, Montana VBS: We will once again be hosting a Family Feast night as one of our activities in Poplar, Montana (June 24-July 3). This is our main opportunity to reach out to the parents of the children in the area. As part of that event, we have a carnival where we create games for the children to play. As a child finishes playing a game, he/she is allowed to choose a small prize. We need your help gathering those prizes: Happy Meal-type toys, Beanie Babies or other small stuffed animals; any small prizes will work. There will be containers for your contributions in areas around the church building. Please gather and donate toys and prizes, and be a part of this mission work in Poplar, Montana. Thank you.

5. Membership 101 class will be held this Sunday, June 3 at 9:30 AM in the Pastor’s Office. All new members and those interested in membership are invited to attend.

6. The Church Council will meet this Sunday, June 3 at 4:00 PM and the Deacons at 5:00 PM.

7. Backyard Bible Clubs will begin next Tuesday, June 5 at Project Circle and Upper Ferry Road. If you would like to be a part of this local mission activity, see Anna Maxwell or call the church office at 735-1929.

8. The t-shirts are in for our summer of missions and will be available in the Connection Point this Sunday for you to pick one up. Wear it as you minister in Carthage or around the world.

9. If you were out last Sunday as Bro. Zeke shared his call to Hawaii, you can read his testimony and specific prayer requests for he and Layne as they prepare for this new chapter in their ministry. Check it out on the church web site: http://www.fbccarthage.com/testimony/

10. There are still opportunities for you to serve in Vacation Bible School. Look over the list below and contact Bro. Tim, Lisa Reece, of the leader of the class you would like to work with. Vacation Bible School is June 10-14 from 6:00 – 8:30 PM.

Teachers: If there are workers in your class who are not listed, please contact Bro. Tim or the church office to update our list. Thanks.
