FBC Carthage E-News
March 5, 2012
Good Afternoon,
After the storms last week, it is good to have several clear, sunny days. While we are enjoying these days, let’s remember to pray for those hard hit by the storms, especially the families who have lost loved ones. Let’s also pray for the work of the Tennessee Baptist Disaster Relief ministry. These are men and women who are trained and available to respond to disasters through cooking, chainsaw work, and other ways of ministry. I have placed a news article from this week’s storm response later in this e-news. This may be a ministry opportunity you would like to explore for yourself and our church.
This week we are in the midst of the Revival by the River. We had a good start last night with great music and preaching. I encourage everyone to attend the revival services each night this week. The services begin at 7:00 PM at the Ag Center. Listed below are the preachers and special music for each evening:
Monday, March 5 Bobby Peoples and Holy Crossing
Tuesday, March 6 Jackie Dawson and the Bryant Family
Wednesday, March 7 Tim Frank and Four-given
Thursday, March 8 Floyd Massey and Zeke Tomaselli
Friday, March 9 Steve Farris and Right on Time
This week is also the Week of Prayer for the North American Mission Board. Please pray for the work of over 5,000 missionaries in the USA and Canada who serve through the North America Mission Board. Donny Coulter is one of those 5,000+ missionaries as he serves the First Nations Peoples in Canada.
Also, to view the mission videos that go along with the missionaries highlighted in the 2012 prayer guides which you received in the service on Sunday, go to: http://www.namb.net/namb1cb2col.aspx?id=8590119853
This Sunday, March 11, the Sunday School classes will highlight the work of The North American Mission Board and share information about the person for whom the offering is named. The children’s classes will also be making banks for their missions offering which they will bring on Easter Sunday.
Continue to pray for the partnerships we have throughout the USA and Canada.

This week, pray specifically for a door that is opening for an initial trip and “Camp Meeting” / Revival in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut. The details are being worked out for a trip in July.
Life is too short and eternity to long to miss God’s plan for your life. Live on mission for Him.

Here’s the News:
1. Correction: The Second Harvest Food Distribution will be next Wednesday, March 14.
2. Tuesday, March 6 is election day for the primary election. Take time to vote.
3. Tuesday is also the meeting of the Smith County School Board, in which they will select a new Director of Schools. Pray for the Board as they make this important selection.
4. There are several youth events coming up. Here is a copy of Zeke’s note to parents:
• Our youth will join the Revival By The River this Wednesday evening at 7pm. It will be a great time to support our Pastor and join our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ from within our community. May the Lord bless you and use you this week for His glory!
• Youth Evangelism Conference - A few spots have opened up due to some last minute youth who had to drop out due to schedule conflicts. If your youth has not signed up yet and want to attend YEC, please contact me. Attached is our schedule and what to bring list. Please review.
• Refuel Nashville - April 1 to 4 at Inglewood Baptist. Still have time to signup (in Youth Room). Refuel is a Youth Missions Project. Mission work consists of yard work, construction, street evangelism, prayer walking, and more. Refuel will also be provided with daily worship services and daily devotionals for personal spiritual development. There is no cost for Refuel.
• Audacious Summer Camp 2012 - Our direction for Summer Camp has changed. Our partnered churches have stepped down from doing a possible camp together at Carson Springs, so after meeting with our Church Council, God has directed us else where. We will join Student Life in Cleveland, TN from July 3 - 7 at Lee University. Student Life is the same organization that we have partnered with the last 2 years in Orange Beach. They provide a Christ centered, mission minded ministry. Our camp cost this year will be $200 (covers: Travel, meals at camp, housing, camp materials, organized recreation, and camp T-shirt). We are also looking into taking our youth off campus for one day to go white water rafting down the Ocoee River (This will be an extra expense). We will begin Signups this Sunday in The Connection Point. $50 deposit is due on April 15. For more info of this specific camp visit http://www.studentlife.com/events/location.php?loc_id=5
5. This weekend, March 10, is the beginning of Daylight Savings Time. Turn your clocks ahead one hour before going to bed on Saturday. Better yet, turn them ahead during the afternoon.
6. All persons interested in being a part of the Mission Montana Team are urged to attend the planning meeting held this Sunday, March 11 at 4:30 PM in the classroom to the right of the Sanctuary. Plans are being made for transportation, lodging, and the work we will be doing with the First Baptist Church in Poplar. Everyone is needed for the planning.
7. We will take the bus next Monday night, March 12 to the regional “More Life” Evangelism Rally at Whorton Springs Baptist Church in Smithville. The bus will plan to leave at 5:30 PM. Bobby Welch, author of FAITH Evangelism Training and the Director for Church Growth for the Tennessee Baptist Convention, will be bringing a challenging and dynamic message during the rally.
8. Senior adults are reminded of the potluck luncheon, next Tuesday, March 13 at 11:30 AM. We will have a delicious lunch, a inspirational program and discuss upcoming trips to the Cumberland County Playhouse for the “Sound of Music” and the Senior “Jubilee” in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

11. Here is a report from the Tennessee Baptist Disaster Relief Ministry:
TN Baptist Disaster Relief Responding to Friday Storms
March 3, 2012
Volunteers from TN Baptist Disaster Relief are responding to the devastating storms that moved through the state and the southeast on Friday, March 2. Trained assessors are moving into the impacted areas in Tennessee to discover the specific needs and how the volunteer teams can help. In addition, state leadership is in regular contact with other states and national leadership about the needs in other states.
Local teams are taking the lead at this point, checking damage to see the extent of the need and if outside assistance is needed, according to David Acres, TN Baptist Disaster Relief state coordinator. “They are having trouble getting a couple of places because of power lines and other damage.” All state chainsaw teams have been placed on alert and will be activated as local leadership determines needs.
In Jackson County local volunteers have begun work assisting approximately 30 homeowners who had damage to their houses. Clinton Association is sending a team to the Crossville area today to clean up damage from the smaller storms that came through on Wednesday. They will be joined next week by a team from the Cumberland Baptist Association.
The Brainerd Baptist Church feeding unit is on stand-by status to move to the Ooltewah area and provide meals for both the American Red Cross and The Salvation Army. A final decision on that need is expected Saturday morning.
TN Baptist Disaster Relief Teams are comprised entirely of volunteers who raise their own support for equipment and pay for their own training and credentialing. During a time of response they are totally dependent upon contributions from churches and individuals who give through TN Baptist Disaster Relief for their expenses in assisting homeowners. They do not accept direct contributions from the homeowners. To give online to TN Baptist Disaster Relief, go to www.TNBaptist.org and follow the links to the DR pages. You can also send a check to TN Baptist Disaster Relief, P.O. Box 728, Brentwood, TN 37024. You may designate it to general relief or “Spring Storms 2012”.
