FBC Carthage E-News for October 31, 2011

FBC Carthage E-News

October 31, 2011

Good morning,

I begin this e-news with a special thank you for the Appreciation Brunch held yesterday in my and Zeke’s honor. It is a blessing and an honor to serve as your Pastor. Thank you for the gift certificate and thank you for the new Bunn coffee maker given in my honor in the kitchen. That will be a great addition to our fellowships, Wednesday night meals, and other special events. There may even be some coffee brewing during the week. If you have not seen the coffee maker, stop by the office and we’ll have a cup of coffee together.

The main emphasis for this week is preparation for our Fall Revival which begins this Sunday, November 6. Bro. Jimmy Arms will be with us for these special days as we explore the theme “Committed: Being the Church.” Listed below are the service times for the revival. I ask you to clear your schedule and plan to attend every service. Be praying for revival to take place in each member’s heart and life. Pray for inactive members to be drawn back into the life of the church. Pray for the lost and unchurched to be reached with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Pray for the Lord to do His work among us.

The revival schedule:
Saturday 10:00 AM Visitation for the revival
(A light breakfast will be served at 9:30 AM.)

Sunday 8:00 & 10:45 AM Revival Services
9:30 AM Sunday School classes for all ages
6:00 PM Revival Services
Ice Cream Sundaes after the service

Monday 2:00 PM Visitation for the revival
5:30 PM Supper provided by the church
6:30 PM Revival Services

Tuesday 2:00 PM Visitation for the revival
5:30 PM Supper provided by the church
6:30 PM Revival Services

Wednesday 2:00 PM Visitation for the revival
5:30 PM Supper provided by the church
6:30 PM Revival Services

During the revival services we will provide child care for babies through two year olds in the Preschool area. We will also conduct a “Revival Adventure” for children 3 years old through 1st grade. The children will join us for the worship portion of the services and then be dismissed before the message (similar to our Children’s Church.)

During the revival week, I encourage each family to accept a unique challenge, to fast (do without) from the television each evening after the revival services. This provides time for reflection on the service and helps reduce the influence of the world from taking away the message the Lord has placed on your heart. It may be surprising how addicted we have become to the television.

I also encourage each family to spend time during the evening in a time of family prayer together. Read a few verses from the scriptures and pray together.

I am looking forward to this coming week of revival and renewal in my own life. I am expecting and anticipating many lives to be touched by the Lord. I am praying that we will experience what only God can do, salvation of souls and reviving of hearts. Join with me in prayer this week. Invite your friends and family to attend. May these next two weeks be devoted to the glory and honor of Jesus Christ.

Have a blessed week,
Bro. Tim

Here’s the news for the week:
1. All ladies are invited to the Women on Missions quarterly meeting this Wednesday, November 2 at 5:45 PM in Jim Broyles’ Sunday School classroom behind the sanctuary. The Women on Missions is our mission organization which involves ladies in mission projects locally and around the world. This Wednesday the group will discuss two Christmas projects for the children of our area.

2. One of the Christmas events will be the annual Toyland through the Smith County Help Service. They are cleaning out a room they have under the center for the Toyland and need our help. I (Bro. Tim) will plan to go on Wednesday, November 2 around 9:00 AM. If you would like to come and help at that time send me an e-mail or call the church office. There will also be ladies from the help center working Tuesday from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

3. Congratulations to the 2011 Smith County High School Owls’ football team on your undefeated season. This Friday the team will play Pearl Cohn High School at home in the first round of the payoffs. We will host a 5th Quarter Youth Fellowship following each of the home games. Invite your friends to join us in the Christian Life Center following the game for food, fun, and a great time of fellowship.

4. Excitement is building for the Ladies Retreat scheduled for November 18-19 at Lighthouse Christian Camp. There is still opportunity for you to be a part of this time of inspiration and fellowship. Reservation forms are available at the Connection Point.

5. Vol State Students: We will have lunch together this Thursday, November 3 at 12:45 PM at the Cracker Barrel. I look forward to seeing you there.

6. Thanksgiving is just around the corner and here are two Thanksgiving week events you will want to have on your calendar:

• Sunday, November 13 Community Thanksgiving Service
FBC Carthage will serve as the host of the Community Thanksgiving Service on November 13 at 6:30 PM. Several churches in the community will join with us for this special service.

• Sunday, November 20 Church-wide Thanksgiving Dinner
We will gather in the Christian Life Center at 5:30 PM for our annual Thanksgiving Dinner. Everyone brings covered dishes and the church will enlist people to bring the turkey and dressing.

7. The winter youth retreat, scheduled for January 14-16, has had a great signup. Just a reminder: the deposits ($25) / Waiver and Medical Release forms, and Signup Forms are due this coming Wednesday, Nov 2. You can get those forms in the youth room or from our website. There is still space available for both youth, and parents if interested. Please contact Zeke if you have any questions.

8. Deer Hunters: We will plan a Deer Hunter’s lunch on opening day of deer season at 11:00AM on Saturday, November 19. Plan to stop by for lunch and hear the stories of the morning hunt. Invite deer hunters you know to come and join us. We will have many door prizes to give away.
