FBC Carthage E-News for November 1, 2010

FBC Carthage E-News
November 1, 2010

Good Morning,

This time of year reminds my of Psalm 121 where the psalmist writes, “I will lift up my eyes to the hills— From whence comes my help? My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.” With the beautiful colors, the cool air and the changing season, this is a beautiful time in Tennessee. It is also a wonderful time to reflect on the grace and mercy of our God who made all that we see. It is a time to remember that we love and serve the Creator and not the creation. It is a time that we give Him thanks for all He has done, especially in sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for our sins. As we begin this Thanksgiving Season, I encourage you to take some time to consider all the ways that God has blessed you and give Him thanks.

I am thankful for our college students and the opportunity I have to visit them during my college road trip. I had four great visits last week with the students and plan on at least two visits this week. Last week I had a meal with four students from Middle Tennessee State University, nine students from Tennessee Tech, three students from Vol State, and three students from Union University. As I met with these students I realize how blessed we are at FBC Carthage to have the opportunity to encourage and make an investment in so many lives. Our students are an important part of our church and I encourage you to be praying for them as they are away at school, studying, preparing for their careers.

A special “Thank You” to everyone who helped make the Fall Festival a great success last Wednesday night. The games, food, and devotional were awesome. Thanks.

Be praying for Harold Brackebush and his family this week in the death of his wife, Linda. Harold and Linda have been members of FBC Carthage for many years and were in the second service last Sunday. The memorial service for Linda will be Monday, November 1 at 1:00 PM at Sanderson’s Funeral Home.

Have a wonderful week as you enjoy the fall season and as you serve the One who created it all.

Bro. Tim

Here’s the news for the week:
1. We are delighted to welcome Marty and Shelia Dodge and Michael and Jan Cannon into our church fellowship as new members. Both couples joined yesterday during the morning services by the transfer of their letter. Welcome to the family of FBC Carthage!

2. Speaking of membership, if you have been considering becoming a member of FBC Carthage and would like to learn more, there are three ways to receive that information:
· Contact Bro. Tim or Bro. Zeke and they will be glad to sit down with you personally and share about the church and membership.
· Attend a Membership 101 class in which Bro. Tim and Bro. Zeke share about being a member and answer your questions.
· Log onto the church web site
www.fbccarthage.com and listen to a message series entitled “What Every Member Needs to Know”. You can find this series under the Media page.
3. Special Reminder: This weekend is time change weekend, time to turn your clocks back one hour. I suggest you turn your clocks back Saturday afternoon which will give you an extra hour in the afternoon. (I was reminded Sunday that we are gaining an hour instead of losing an hour.)

4. Also, remember to vote on Tuesday, November 2. If you missed the early voting, don’t miss going to the polls on Tuesday and casting your ballot. As Americans, our vote does matter and we do have a civic duty to be involved in the election process.

5. Two special Thanksgiving dates are coming up:
· Sunday, November 14 we will join together with other churches in our community for the annual Community Thanksgiving Service at the Ag Center. This service will begin at 6:00 PM.
· Sunday, November 21 will be our FBC Carthage Thanksgiving Dinner at 5:30 PM. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish for the dinner as we celebrate and share together the good things the Lord has done.
6. Deer Hunters, we are planning a chili/soup lunch on Saturday, November 20 from 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM. This will be a little different from the early morning breakfast last year. Stop by for a hot bowl of chili and a sandwich before taking your deer for processing or going back out for the afternoon hunt. If you are successful, we will have cameras to take your picture with your trophy. We will have door prizes and a devotional time at 11:30 AM. Everyone will receive a useful hunter’s bag. Invite your friends to join you for lunch on opening day of deer season.

7. The Church Council will meet this Sunday, November 7 at 4:00 PM and the Deacons will meet this Sunday at 5:00 PM.
