FBC Carthage E-News
November 8, 2010
Good Morning,
Zeke and I have traveled to Knoxville for a couple of days to attend the Tennessee Baptist Convention at Grace Baptist Church. There are several pre-convention meetings and the Pastor’s Conference today and the full convention meeting begins on Tuesday. This will be the first annual meeting with the new TBC Executive Director, Randy Davis. Please pray for the decisions made and the work done through the Tennessee Baptist Convention.
Last week was a great week for many in our congregation. The Smith County Owls won their first game of the playoffs with an exciting victory over East Literature High School. This Friday night they will host Pearl Cohn High School. We will have a 5th Quarter after the game so spread the word. Go owls!
I also want to congratulate Sabra Hodge as she won the city mayor's race and has already begun her work as the mayor of Carthage.
Yesterday we announced that Sam Smith has been accepted into the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He will begin his seminary training in the fall of 2011.
I also want to congratulate my daughter, Sara, in winning the Miss Smith County Pageant.
Yesterday, we focused on the importance of sharing our faith and praying for our lost friends and loved ones. I encourage each one to have the names of specific people you are praying for and seek to share with them the gospel of Christ. Most people are open to hearing a friend or family member share of their faith in Jesus. Pray for the Lord to bring conviction in their lives that they may realize their need for Jesus. I am told that my father, a deacon and Sunday School teacher at FBC Carthage, had a list of over ten names of lost and unchurched men he was praying for in his pocket the day he was killed in an accident on Cordell Hull. Let us each have the concern for those we know to pray for them and their greatest need, the need to receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
Have a blessed week and remember to pray for your friends and family.
Bro. Tim
Here’s the news for the week:
1. Two special Thanksgiving dates are coming up very soon:
· Next Sunday, November 14, we will join together with other churches in our community for the annual Community Thanksgiving Service at the Ag Center. This service will begin at 6:00PM.
· Sunday, November 21 will be our FBC Carthage Thanksgiving Dinner at 5:30 PM. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish for the dinner as we celebrate and share together the good things the Lord has done.
2. Several of the Sunday School classes are working together in providing Thanksgiving dinners for needy families in our community. If you would like to help with this effort or know of families who would be blessed through a Thanksgiving dinner, call the church office or see Phillip Slagle.
3. Speaking of helping the needy during the holidays, we are presently collecting gifts for the Lighthouse Christian Camp Christmas parties, December 4 and 11. Gifts are needed for girls and boys and their moms and dads. In addition to gifts, there are opportunities to go to Lighthouse for these parties and help from 8:30AM to 3:00 PM. For more information, look at the bulletin board on the second floor, just inside the education building.
4. Deer Hunters, we are planning a chili/soup lunch on Saturday, November 20 from 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM. This will be a little different from the early morning breakfast last year. Stop by for a hot bowl of chili and a sandwich before taking your deer for processing or going back out for the afternoon hunt. If you are successful, we will have cameras to take your picture with your trophy. We will have door prizes and a devotional time at 11:30AM. Everyone will receive a useful hunter’s bag. Invite your friends to join you for lunch on opening day of deer season.
5. Speaking of the deer hunter luncheon, we need persons who will bring a pot of chili or soup, a plate of sandwiches, or some cookies. We have three pots of chili and soup so far. Call the church office or see Bro. Tim if you can help.
