FBC Carthage E-News
October 4, 2010
Good frosty morning,
I have had several reports of frost on rooftops and in the fields this morning. It is time to start thinking about colder weather and getting out jackets and coats. I was glad to have my jacket last Friday night at the Smith County Homecoming Game. This is an exciting time of the year.
We have two mission teams preparing to leave this week to serve in opposite ends of the United States. Zeke Tomaselli will lead a team of thirteen people from FBC Carthage to Long Island, New York to work with Jim and Karen Wilburn. They will leave this Saturday, October 9 and return on the following Friday, October 15. During that same time, October 6-16, Marty Dodge will be leading a smaller team of three to Wiamea, Hawaii to serve with Mark Stinnett. Lets be praying for these teams as they travel and serve.
A special “Thank You” goes to those from FBC Carthage who helped this Saturday at the Rendezvous on the Square in Carthage. The children were lined up all day for their face-paint.
“Thank you” also goes to Stephen Russell for leading the Defeated Creek Campground service yesterday. There were twenty in attendance for this special service.
I encourage us all to live with a sense of being “on mission” for God. Last night the message was on an Old Testament judge named Shamgar in Judges 3:31. One verse is given to describe his accomplishment for the Lord. The main theme from that passage and others we looked at was to “do what you can, where you are with what you have for the glory of God.” That is a good way for us to live our lives, to give all we are and all we have to the control of God. There is a great work for you. There is a great work for me. There is a great work of all of us together to do for the honor and glory of God.
Have a blessed week,
Bro. Tim
Here is the news for this week:
1. This Wednesday, October 6 is the monthly business meeting of the church at 6:30 PM. In addition to the regular reports, the finance committee will present the 2010-2011 proposed budget for discussion and approval.
2. Wednesday will also be the second session of our journey through the New Testament book of Acts. I encourage everyone to join us for this study through the early days of the church as all barriers were broken and the gospel was shared unhindered.
3. Saturday, October 9 will be the annual Field of Faith, held at the Gordonsville High School gym at 7:00 PM. The special guests will be Robbie Robinson and Jake Gulledge. The service will be focused toward students, but everyone is invited.
4. Today, October 4, is the last day to register before the November 2 election. To register or to change your voter registration address, simply go to the Election Commission Office in the Turner Building. Voting is a privilege and a duty of every citizen. I encourage everyone to be registered and to vote. Early voting is available October 13-28 at the Election Commission.
5. We have been receiving a special offering for missions in Tennessee through the Tennessee Baptist Convention Golden State Missions Offering. I have copied a link for more information about the projects that the offering goes toward and the work of the Tennessee Baptist Convention.
