FBC Carthage E-News for September 7, 2010

FBC Carthage E-News
September 7, 2010

Good morning,

As we begin another work week after the Labor Day holiday, my thoughts are on the privilege and responsibility we have to work. The scripture I shared at the picnic Sunday night was Colossians 3:17, 22-24 which says, “17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. 22 Bondservants (employees), obey in all things your masters (supervisors) according to the flesh, not with eye-service, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God. 23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for[
a] you serve the Lord Christ.”

Several things jump out at me as I read this passage:
1. As Christians, we are to be good workers for our employers.
2. Through our work, we are presenting a Christian testimony to others.
3. Through our work, we are giving to God our best.
4. We are to work as though we are working for God, not just the boss.
5. Put your heart into your work.
6. The ultimate reward for our work is not a paycheck or promotion. God will give the ultimate reward, an inheritance from the Lord.
7. In everything we do, we do it in the name of Jesus Christ.

Whatever your occupation, at home or in the workplace, give the Lord a good week of work. Happy Labor Day!

Bro. Tim

Here’s the news for the week:

1. We are delighted to welcome Lisa Walker as a new member of FBC Carthage. She transferred her membership from the Gladeville Baptist Church in Lebanon.

2. This week, remember Jim Goolsby and his family in your prayers in the death of his dad, Buddy Goolsby.

3. The special class for children who have recently trusted Jesus as their Savior and Lord will continue this Wednesday, September 9 at 6:00 PM on the second floor of the education building. There was a great group of boys and girls and their parents present for the first session. Becky Mitchell is teaching this class.

4. The Beth Moore Conference is almost here and the excitement is growing. One week from Saturday, September 18, FBC Carthage will host the Beth Moore Living Proof Conference live by simulcast. We have placed a link on the church web site with information and a personal message from Beth Moore. Check it out at
www.fbccarthage.com/. You can purchase tickets for $10 (which includes lunch) from the church office or at Magnolia’s Gifts. This will be an event to invite your friends to attend. Here are some important announcements for the ladies about this special event:

Ladies - With the Beth Moore Simulcast fast approaching, please make sure you do the following this week:

· Pray! Pray for our team members who will be helping with the event (Ladies who have volunteered: You'll receive a card with your specific job assignment this coming Sunday, September 12); pray for Beth Moore and Travis Cottrell; pray for yourself and what God wants you to receive in this worship encounter; pray for everything we do and say concerning this event to bring Glory to God!

· Buy your ticket! We need to let the caterer for our box lunches (Timberloft Restaurant) know how many lunches to prepare, so we need to know approximately how many women are attending by Friday. Tickets are available from Magnolia's, the church office, Deborah Bane at Green Bank, and Kandy Smith at church Wednesday night. We'll certainly sell tickets up until the day, but if you can buy before Friday, that will help us.
.
· Talk the event up to all the women you know. We right now have about 90-100 women who have purchased tickets and/or indicated they are coming. This is going to be an awesome day, and our sanctuary will accommodate a few more, so let your friends, relatives, and co-workers know that you're excited about this time we're going to have together with God, and you'd like for them to join us. We can do "scholarship" tickets if you know of women who would like to come but don't have the extra $10 - in today's economy, that could very well be many women.

· Feel free to join us for our planning meeting Wednesday night from 6:00 until 6:30 in Michael Collins' Sunday School class room. We'll be praying and discussing final preparation details.

· Meet in the sanctuary at 8:00 this coming Saturday morning - September 11 - to take a Prayer Walk through our parking areas and church buildings. Never been on a prayer walk? No problem. We'll talk you through it that morning. Those who are encouragers for the Simulcast (Encouragers = women who will be available in the altar area during the invitation time to pray with those making decisions) will have a brief training after the Prayer Walk. (Remember to leave the Citizens Bank parking side for bank customers - park on the Poindexter Realty side of our church building or in our parking lot across the street.)

· Call or email Kandy Smith with any questions/concerns. Nothing too small or too big (for God!). Phone: 735-9623 or 489-6912 or
ksmith90@utk.edu.

5. All ministry leaders are asked to submit your budget requests to the church office today Tuesday, September 7 in preparation for the Budget Committee’s first meeting tomorrow night, September 8 at 7:30 PM.

6. Just a reminder, the Deacon’s Meeting will be this Sunday, September 12 at 5:00 PM.

7. Calling all men, make your plans to attend the men’s cookout at the Defeated Creek Campground Pavilion on Thursday night, September 16 at 6:00 PM. A Christian motorcycle men’s group from Woodstock Baptist Church in Woodstock, Georgia will be joining us as our special guests. I am in need of some men to volunteer to grill for the event.

8. Speaking of the Campground Pavilion, Charlie Daigre and his Sunday School class will be leading the Defeated Creek Campground service this Sunday, September 12 at 8:30 AM.

9. Here is a link to Zeke’s Parent Blog. Even if you are not a parent, check out the news:

10. For those who have been a part of the Mission Montana teams, Bill and Kathy Hess are new grandparents and sent the following e-mail:
Adriana had a baby girl, 7 lbs 1.5 oz, 19.6 inches long. Everything went smoothly and the baby was born at 11:55 am on August 30. Our beautiful grand daughter is named Adelaide Amore' Brown. She's very precious and cute. We love and adore her. Adriana and Nick are doing great. Grandma and Grandpa are doing ok.
