FBC Carthage E-News
August 30, 2010
Good morning,
After the heat of summer, it feels like fall is in the air. The past week has had some great weather with cooler days and nights. We are moving into my favorite time of the year. I like everything about the fall season: cooler weather, Friday night football, 5th quarter fellowships, hunting, holidays. Take some time this week to reflect on God’s blessings this summer and anticipate His work this fall.
Speaking of the end of summer and the beginning of fall, this Sunday, September 5 will be our annual Labor Day Church-wide Picnic at 5:00 PM at the Defeated Creek Picnic Pavilion. Bring a picnic supper to share together and the church will bring soft drinks.
On a personal note, thank you for all your prayers, calls, and concern for my daughter, Sara, during her surgery and recovery. She is doing well and has begun her physical therapy. Thanks for remembering our family during this time of injury.
Thanks also to all who served in our first 5th Quarter Fellowship last Friday night. The decorations, food, and games were great. We had 184 students registered which is one of our largest 5th Quarters yet.
We also had a great work day on Saturday with several projects completed. Thanks to those who gave of their effort and time to make the improvements.
Have a blessed week and a safe Labor Day weekend.
Bro. Tim
Here’s the news for the week:
1. I am happy to welcome Grace Nixon as a new member of FBC Carthage. She made her profession of faith Sunday and will be baptized, along with her brother, Patrick on this next Sunday.
2. A special class for children who have recently trusted Jesus as their Savior and Lord will begin this Wednesday, September 1 at 6:00 PM on the second floor of the education building. Becky Mitchell will be teaching this class. Parents are asked to attend this first session.
3. Our second 5th Quarter Fellowship will be this Friday night after the game with Livingston. The theme will be Black and Gold Football. There will be food, games, prizes and a dodge-ball tournament! Invite your friends to attend this great event after the big game. All youth, 7th -12th grades, are invited.
4. All youth are reminded to be at the Wednesday night youth service for a great time of worship and Bible study. Zeke will be sharing information about the Youth trip to the lake this Saturday.
5. Ladies, the BIG event is less than three weeks away! Saturday, September 18, FBC Carthage will host a Beth Moore Living Proof Conference live by simulcast. We have placed a link on the church web site with information and a personal message from Beth Moore. Check it out at http://www.fbccarthage.com/. You can purchase tickets for $10 (which includes lunch) from the church office or at Magnolia’s Gifts. This will be an event to invite your friends to attend.
6. The Work-Day was a great success with numerous projects completed. There were a couple of projects started that have more work that needs to be done. If you have some time this week to come by and paint give Bro. Tim a call at the church office.
7. It’s Budget Preparation time and all ministry leaders are asked to submit your budget requests to the church office by Tuesday, September 7.
8. Mom’s Together is a group of moms who meet the first and third Tuesday mornings at 9:00 AM for a time of friendship, fellowship and fun. Bring your children and join the fun.
9. The FBC Carthage Labor Day Picnic will be this coming Sunday afternoon, September 5 at 5:00 PM. We will gather at the Defeated Creek Picnic Pavilion and everyone is asked to bring a covered dish to share. The church will bring canned soft drinks.
10. The September Deacon’s Meeting will be moved to Sunday, September 12 at 5:00 PM due to the church-wide Labor Day picnic.
11. Men, here’s a reminder of the men’s cookout at the Defeated Creek Campground Pavilion on Thursday night, September 16 at 6:00 PM. A men’s group from Woodstock Baptist Church in Woodstock, Georgia will be joining us as our special guests.
12. Here is a note from Bro. Zeke on an upcoming mission trip to New York. If you have interest in being a part of the effort contact Bro. Zeke:
I am looking for some students who would have time off during Fall break. I am taking a team up to NY to co-labor with North Shores Baptist Church, led by our friend Jim Wilburn. Right now the only personal cost involved is meals. The dates are Oct 8 - 15. I have 6 committed to the trip. 4 spots are available. Please prayerfully consider being a part of God's activity for this 1 week in NY. Looking to feel these spots by the end of the week. Take care!
13. Last night during the service I mentioned that I am glad to be your shepherd (pastor) and not your rancher. As a shepherd I care , guide and lead as opposed to a rancher who drives, whips, and herds. Here is a great video sent to me last week on “Herding Cats” that made me smile.
