FBC Carthage E-News for September 21, 2010

FBC Carthage E-News
September 21, 2010

Good Tuesday morning,
Thank you for all the Happy Birthday greetings, cards and gifts. The birthday party Sunday night was a lot of fun. I appreciate your thoughtfulness as I have reached this fifty year milestone in my life. After several encouragements and two gifts of fishing equipment I took off to the lake yesterday and did a little fishing for my birthday. It was a great day and a good way to begin the next half a century.

Reflecting on fifty years, I share a dozen thoughts:
· The greatest decision a person can make is to surrender to the will of God and follow Jesus.
· Trusting Jesus as your Lord and Savior is the beginning of a whole new life.
· The Bible has been given to us to read. Start every day by listening to God as He speaks to you through His word.
· It is a blessing to have a life verse you can meditate on in times of challenge and need. Proverbs 3:5-6 is mine.
· The people of the church will become as close as family if you will let them.
· Live in terms of eternity. So much of what we worry about and spend our time and energy on will pass away.
· Time passes more quickly than I realize.
· There are few things that are truly important. Don’t put them off.
· You invest time in your family and people. Investments have a return in later years.
· The more things you have, the more things have you. Beware of greed and wanting what others have.
· Jesus gives life. People multiply life. Things drain life. Sin takes life.
· And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him Colossians 3:17.

Have a great week,

Bro. Tim

Here’s the news for the week:

1. We are delighted to welcome Janet Powell as a new member of FBC Carthage. She trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord during the Beth Moore simulcast and made her profession of faith this past Sunday in the 10:45 AM service. Janet is a member of the ladies Sunday School class taught by Samantha Upchurch.

2. Speaking of the Beth Moore Simulcast, we had a more than 130 ladies from many churches and denominations join together for this powerful event. A special “Thank You” to all the ladies who organized and conducted this event. I pray that this event will serve as the beginning of a great Women’s Ministry at FBC Carthage.

3. The men’s cookout last week was also a great start to what I pray will become a powerful Men’s Ministry at FBC Carthage. Thanks to the guys who helped with the grill.

4. All students are reminded that this Wednesday, September 22 is the annual “See You at the Pole” Rally. The students at many schools across the nation will gather at their school’s flag pole before classes for a time of prayer. Even if your school doesn’t have an event planned you can gather with a few friends and pray. Here is an interesting article from the American Center for Law and Justice on this topic:

5. Saturday, October 2 will be Rendezvous on the Square in Carthage and we have been asked to help with a face-painting booth in the children’s area. If you would like to be a part of this community mission tem, contact Bro. Tim or call the church office at 735-1929.

6. Speaking of missions, Lighthouse Christian Camp is sponsoring a “Fishing Rodeo this Saturday, September 25 at Ragland Bottom on Center Hill Lake. Children from Smith County will be there and the camp leaders are still in need of a few more fishermen and boats. If you can be a part of this fun day contact Bro. Tim at 735-1929. We are meeting at Ragland Bottom picnic area at 7:30 AM.

7. Parents, remember the special class for children who have recently trusted Jesus as their Savior and Lord will continue this Wednesday, September 22 at 6:00 PM on the second floor of the education building.

8. All senior adults are reminded of the Association-wide Senior Adult covered dish dinner which will be held on Thursday, September 30 at 6:00 PM at the Rome Baptist Church. Everyone is invited. Talk about taking a group from your Sunday School class.

9. Be praying for the upcoming mission trips during Fall Break:
Mission to New York October 9-16
Mission to Waimea, Hawaii October 8-16

10. Plans are being made for the annual College Road Trip. We are looking at the week of October 25-29. College students, let me (Bro. Tim) know if that week is good for you.

11. I hope all parents of youth are reading Zeke’s weekly information blog. This week has the details of the 2011 Ski Retreat:
