FBC Carthage E-News
April 12, 2010
Good Morning,
I wish all students, teachers and parents a wonderful and safe Spring Break. It seems like the break is a little later this year. Graduations will be here before we know it. In fact, our Graduate Recognition service and after-church luncheon will be two weeks from Sunday on May 2.
Thinking about graduation causes me to realize that the Summer is just around the corner. I hope you are excited about all the activities and missions we will be involved in during the Summer. I have listed some of the main events for you to put them on your calendar. You don’t want to miss any of the blessings which are coming.
May 24-27 Kid’s Day Camp for Grades 1-6 at Carthage City Park.
June 2-5 Youth ReFuel Community Missions Week for Grades 7-12
June 14-18 Vacation Bible School from 6:00-8:30 PM.
June 24-26 Youth Music Camp for Grades 7-12.
June 28-July 2 Youth Camp in Orange Beach, Alabama
July 4 Church Picnic at Defeated Creek Pavillion
July 12-17 Community Children’s Choir at Ag Center
July 14-20 Mission Trip to Montana
July 26-31 Ministry Booth at the Smith County Fair
Thank you to Zeke Tomaselli for filling the pulpit last night in the evening service. Fran and I had the opportunity to go back to Stevens Street Baptist Church for Bro. Jimmy Arms’ final service and reception. Bro. Jimmy and I served together for 12 years and last night was a special time as he concluded his pastorate of Stevens Street after 19 years. The service reminded me of the value of longevity in a place of ministry. When Bro. Jimmy came to Stevens Street they were a small congregation of just more than one hundred. The Lord has used Bro. Jimmy in a great way to touch the lives of many people. I ask you to remember Bro. Jimmy and his wife, Diane, in your prayers as they begin a new chapter in their lives and in their ministry. I also encourage you to invest your life in the lives of others. Last night reminded me of the blessing of friendship and the value of relationships with other people. This life is about much more than just me, its more than just you, this life is meant to be lived in relationships, you and me together.
I am blessed to be your Pastor and I thank the Lord for allowing me to serve Him at FBC Carthage.
Bro. Tim
Here’s the news for the week:
1. We welcome Pauline Gray as a new member of FBC Carthage.
2. Youth and parents are reminded of the special trip this Wednesday, April 14 to the Roxy Theatre in Lebanon to see the movie Letters to God. The cost is $7.50 which includes your ticket, popcorn and soft drink. Now that’s a great deal! Meet in the Youth room at 6:00 PM. For a preview of Letters to God click on: http://www.letterstogodthemovie.com/
3. Our next Membership 101 class will be Sunday, April 18 at 4:00 PM. This class is an introduction to FBC Carthage for new and prospective members.
4. Mark your calendars for the Children’s Choir program on Sunday, April 25 at 5:30 PM. This is always a delightful evening as the children lead us. The program is entitled Sermon on the Mound.
5. The Wednesday night Bible study for adults is focusing on the wisdom book of Proverbs. For the next several weeks we will look at fifteen wise financial principles that are presented in Proverbs. The study begins each week at 6:30 PM in the Family Life Center. Also, remember that supper is served from 5:00-6:00 PM. Come and join us as we study together.
6. The worship at Stevens Street was a blessing last night as the choir sang several of Bro. Jimmy’s favorite songs. Here is one that blessed me and I believe will be a blessing to you today:
