FBC Carthage E-News for October 5, 2009

FBC Carthage E-News
October 5, 2009

Good Morning,

I believe we can say that the Fall season has arrived. The cool days and nights create in me a sense of excitement and anticipation. I love this time of year as the trees begin to change. Fall is in the air.

Yesterday was Soul-Winning Commitment Day and we studied Jesus’ call to “Follow Him” and become “Fishers of Men”. There are people all around us who do not know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. We as Christians are commissioned to share the good news with them. Here are a couple of web links that may give you a creative way to share the gospel of Jesus with those you know who are without Him:

The most important thing you can do for your unchurched and lost friends is to pray for them. I encourage you to write down the names of at least five friends and family members who you will pray for by name. Pray for God to open their hearts to the gospel and to give you the courage and boldness to share Jesus with them. If you don’t share with them about Jesus, who will?

We have had many guests with us for the morning worship services during the past several weeks. If you know any of these people please make the effort to contact them and let them know you were glad to see them at FBC Carthage. It is important to reach out to those who come and join with us for worship. It will make a difference for you to reach out to them. Invite them to your Sunday School class. Ask them to come next Sunday and then go to lunch together. Take them out for a cup of coffee and get to know them. Reaching people for Jesus Christ is a team effort and you are part of the team.

During this month, I am asking each member of First Baptist to make at least one contact each week for the church and the Lord Jesus Christ. Contact a member who has been absent and let them know you miss them. Call a friend who doesn’t attend church and give them a personal invitation. Invite a neighbor to come with you to Sunday School and church. Share with a friend the gospel of Jesus Christ.

These are exciting days at FBC Carthage. I am glad to be sharing them with you.

Bro. Tim

Here’s this week’s news:
1. Sign-ups are now taking place for a new Pictorial Church Directory. We have arranged with Olan Mills to come to FBC Carthage on October 23, 24, 26, and 27 to photograph our families for this new Church Directory. Every family photographed will receive a free directory and a free 8x10 portrait. There will be opportunity for you to purchase additional portraits if you choose. For many families, the portraits made during a church directory are the only times their family has a portrait made. You can sign-up your family before or after the services on Sunday and Wednesday.

2. As part of the Church Pictorial Directory we will have several pages of activity photographs. If you have pictures made within the past year and could share them with us, that would be of great help.

3. Wednesday, October 7 will be the next meeting of Mom’s Together, a group for moms with preschool and younger children. The group will meet in the Preschool area at FBC Carthage from 9-11 AM. Invite all moms to come for this special time. Tim Frank will be sharing a devotional entitled “Divine Beauty Tips for Women.”

4. The October Business Meeting will be held this Wednesday, October 7 at 6:30 PM in the Family Life Center. We will hear reports from the church ministries and committees. There will be a brief report from the Personnel Committee and opportunity to ask questions you may have concerning the ongoing staff search process.

5. Friday, October 9 will be our next 5th Quarter Fellowship following the Football game against White House. The 5th Quarter will begin after the game (around 9:30 PM and last until 11:30 PM. Jason Kline, a favorite speaker from the Tennessee FCA will be our special guest. Pizza, soft drinks and treats will be served. Invite all students in grades 7-12 to join in the FBC Carthage 5th Quarter.
