FBC Carthage E-News
October 12, 2009
Good Morning,
By the time you read this I will be in Johnson City for my first college visit at East Tennessee State University. I will be having dinner with Corey Presley, a student at ETSU and a member at FBC Carthage. This year I am looking forward to having my daughter, Sara, along on the college visits. I also hope other High School juniors and seniors from FBC Carthage will be able to travel to the other colleges for the visits. I hope to have the schedule of those visits finalized by next Sunday. It is important to stay in touch with our students while they are away at school. These college visits are an opportunity for me to see them and their schools.
This week is Fall Break for the Smith County schools and a great time for teachers and students alike to have a little rest and relaxation. There will be a home football game this Friday night, October 16 and a 5th Quarter after the game. This is the last home game of the regular season and I want to say “Thank You” to all who have helped in the 5th Quarters. Hopefully there will be several more home games during the post-season play and we can have additional 5 Quarters. This is a great ministry and connection event for the youth of our area.
Speaking of our youth, I want to say a special “Congratulations” to Stephen Russell, our Wednesday night youth leader and Sunday School teacher, and Audrey Goolsby on their upcoming wedding this Saturday, October 17 at 4:00 PM.
Have a blessed week,
Bro. Tim
Here’s the news for the week:
1. Portraits for the Church Pictorial Directory will be made on Friday and Saturday, October 23 and 24, and on Monday and Tuesday, October 26 and 27. All active members and regular attenders are encouraged to be a part of this directory. Every family photographed will receive a copy of the directory and a free 8x10 portrait. There are still spaces available for you to sign-up and be a part of the directory. You can call the church office or sign-up before or after the services Sunday. Don’t miss out on this opportunity.
2. We need activity pictures for the church directory. If you have pictures please e-mail them or bring them to the church office this week. These can be individuals or groups within the church.
3. Sunday night, October 18 our evening service will be moved to New Middleton Baptist Church to be a part of the New Salem Baptist Association Annual Meeting. The evening service will begin at 6:30 PM and I will be preaching the Annual Sermon. In addition, there will be an afternoon session beginning at 3:00 PM and an evening dinner meal for everyone at 5:30 PM.
4. On Sunday night, October 18 we will be having AWANA at our church at 5:30 PM as regularly scheduled. The Church Council, along with the AWANA leadership, decided to continue the regular AWANA schedule even though the church service is moved to New Middleton Baptist for the Association Meeting.
5. The Preschool and Children’s Activity Commitees will be hosting a Fall Festival for all preschool and children in grades 1-6 and their families on Wednesday night, October 28. People are needed to bring chili, cookies and candy for this special evening of fun and fellowship. The meal and activities will begin at 5:30 PM in the Family Life Center. All children in the community are invited to attend. Invite friends, family and neighbor children and families. Everyone is invited to attend.
6. For twelve years I was a part of a Deer Hunter’s Breakfast aimed at reaching out to the deer hunting community to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. A breakfast was held at 3:30 AM on the opening morning of gun season and it became a tradition for almost three hundred men, women and children. I would love to see a similar outreach event at FBC Carthage on November 21. If you would be interested in helping get this event started send me an e-mail or call the church office and let me know. Cooking would begin around 1:30 this first year and door prizes would be needed.
7. The choir has begun work on this year’s Christmas program on Wednesday nights at 7:00 PM. You are needed and invited to come and join the choir for this special season of praise and worship. Come this week.
8. Speaking of Wednesday nights at FBC Carthage, there are openings on the cooking teams in preparing for the fellowship meals. Volunteers rotate once each month to prepare the meals. Contact the church office or see Melody Tackett to volunteer.
