FBC Carthage E-News for October 19, 2009

FBC Carthage E-News
October 19, 2009

Good Morning,

After two weeks of rainy weather it is a beautiful sunny day in Tennessee. It is always amazing how sunny and bright the days are following a period of rain and clouds. Take a few extra minutes this week to thank the Lord for His blessings and the joy we have as believers in Jesus Christ.

With the students getting back into the school routine after Fall break, it is time to schedule my Fall College Road Trip to visit our college students. Sara and I had a great visit last week with Corey Presley at East Tennessee State University. The following is my tentative schedule for the college visits:
Thursday, October 29 Tennessee Tech
Monday, November 2 Union University
Tuesday, November 3 Middle Tennessee State University
Thursday, November 5 University of Tennessee, Knoxville
I invite High School Juniors and Seniors to go along and visit the students with me.

This week begins the photography for our Pictorial Directory. I hope you and your family are signed-up and planning on being included in this directory. This church directory will be a great tool for our church for months to come. The directory will serve as a ministry tool for members, providing contact information for one another. It also helps new members to get to know the names and faces of the members of FBC Carthage. Please know that your participation in this directory will be a help to you and to many others. If you need an appointment to have your portrait made, contact the church office at 735-1929.

I ask you to remember two special prayer requests this week:
First, pray for the Personnel Committee as they resume their important work. They have taken a much-needed break and will begin the search process again this week for a Minister to Youth and Music for our church.

Second, pray for Tony Fleenor, a dear friend to many of us here at FBC Carthage. Bro. Tony was the Interim Pastor of FBC Carthage prior to my coming last June. He has since served in a church outside of Sparta, Tennessee as Interim Pastor. For the past several weeks, however, Bro. Tony has been struggling with health issues. He and his wife, Karen, need our prayers this week in a special way. Let us remember Tony and ask God’s healing and blessing be upon him.

Have a blessed week.

Bro. Tim

4. A Family Fun Festival will be held in the Family Life Center on Wednesday, October 28 from 5:30-7:30 PM for all children and preschoolers. There will be food, games, inflatables and a lot of fun. Invite your friends to join you for the fun. Parents and adults, we need chili, cookies, candy and workers. This event is coordinated by the Preschool and Children Activities Committees.

5. Christmas is coming! Yes, even before we finish October it is time to be thinking of Christmas and the celebration we will have of the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. The choir is working on a special musical celebration entitled, “Born to You this Day.” I encourage you to join the choir for this special season. They meet on Wednesday nights at 7:00 PM in the choir room. I am going to be a part of the choir for Christmas and I encourage you to join with me as we celebrate Jesus!

6. This Sunday, October 25 we have the opportunity to Stand for Life. At 2:00 PM a Life Chain will be formed at Main Street and Highway 25 to take a stand for the lives of babies in the womb. Our love and compassion reaches to all people and begins with the tiny babies and extends to the eldest.

7. There has been interest expressed in the Deer Hunter’s Breakfast on Saturday, November 21 at 3:30 AM. Begin to spread the news to hunters you know and invite them to come for a delicious breakfast, great prizes and a lot of fun and fellowship with other hunters before the big day. We still need help in preparing the meal and rounding up the prizes. Contact Bro. Tim to volunteer to help.

8. The message Sunday was “All Things Are Possible”. Through our faith in Jesus Christ we can see great and miraculous things accomplished in Christ. I suggest you watch the movie “Facing the Giants” for a great representation of God’s greatness and power. You can check out this movie in our Church Library. For a preview of the movie go to:
