FBC Carthage E-News for July 27, 2009

FBC Carthage E-News
July 27, 2009

Good Morning,

It is a great day in Carthage, Tennessee. The sun is shining and there is an excitement in the air. This is a big week for many people. One reason for the excitement is the Smith County Fair begins today and goes through Saturday. We will have a ministry booth at the fair. Listed below is the schedule I have of people signed-up to help in the booth. We will be there from 5:30 – 8:30 PM each evening. It looks like there will be opportunity for workers to rotate in and out on most nights. Events like the fair booth provide us a great opportunity to meet and greet people in the community. It’s a good chance to say, “Hello” and to give a warm invitation to the church. There are also many hurting people who will come to the fair and we may be able to minister to them in a special way. Thanks to all who are participating in the fair ministry.

This week is also exciting in that the county schools begin a new school year on Friday, July 31. Teachers will get back together on Tuesday and Wednesday for In-Service and the children go for a short day on Friday. We will provide lunch in the Family Life Center for all the teachers on Tuesday. It is a blessing to for us to be able to minister to this important group of people. Remember to pray for the teachers as they prepare this week and the children as they begin a new school year.

It is also an exciting week because Fran, Sara, and I are back in Carthage. We had a delightful visit last week with our oldest daughter, Jill. She is in Stuttgart, Germany for the summer and will be home the middle of August. Germany was a very beautiful country with much history and places to see. We have always enjoyed traveling and seeing new places, but as I said Sunday, it is always great to be back home.

One last reason this week is so exciting is that Sunday, August 2, begins a new year of AWANA on Sunday nights at 5:30 PM. AWANA is a Bible club for children and youth that focuses on discipleship and scripture memory. Children begin two years before they enter Kindergarten and classes are offered through 12th grade. Each year AWANA grows and touches more lives. Bring your children and teens this Sunday for an exciting year of learning God’s Word.

We also will have our Sunday evening worship service in the sanctuary, beginning at 5:30 PM for parents and all adults. The messages each evening will be a study through the New Testament. This week we are reading the Gospel of Matthew and on Sunday night we will study the major truths taught. Bring your Bibles and make First Baptist Church your Sunday night place to be.

That’s a lot of excitement for one week. Have a blessed week and share the joy and good news of Jesus with those you meet.

Bro. Tim

Here’s the news for July 27, 2009:
1. A special Baptism service will be held on Sunday, August 2 at 2:30 PM in the creek behind Plunkett’s Creek Baptist Church. The church is just off Highway 70 before you get to the Rome community. Two young ladies are planning to be baptized during this service. If you have not followed the Lord in Believer’s Baptism you can also be included in those being baptized. Call me this week at 735-1929.

2. All AWANA leaders and workers will meet this Saturday, August 1 from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM in the Family Life Center for training and preparation for the new year of AWANA. Positions are still available to be of service. Contact John Ethridge or call the church office.

3. Remember to pray for the Personnel Committee and the search process for the Minister to Youth and Music. We have designated Mondays as the specific day of prayer for this great need in our church. The Personnel Committee will meet this Wednesday, July 29 at 7:30 PM. Pray for God’s divine direction in each step of the process.

4. The Church Council will meet Sunday, August 2 at 4:00 PM and the Deacons will meet at 4:45 PM.

5. Thanks to all the Sunday School classes who hosted the Super Summer Sunday Nights. Last night was a great conclusion to these special Sunday night events with a great attendance, great cookout, and an exceptional softball game at City Park.
