FBC Carthage E-News for July 13, 2009
FBC Carthage E-News
July 13, 2009
Good Morning,
It is with great excitement that I begin this week and write this E-News. This is the week that my family and I get to visit our oldest daughter, Jill. Please pray for traveling safety.
Speaking of prayer, we are all asked to spend time in prayer today asking the Lord for guidance and direction for the Personnel Committee as they seek the person the Lord has for the Minister to Youth and Music position. This is a very important position in our church as this person leads us in worship to God and as he leads the Youth Ministry. Here are several things to pray for the Personnel Committee:
· Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on you own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
· Pray for patience and willingness to wait on the Lord to lead and guide.
· Pray for wise discernment as they talk to perspective ministers.
· Pray for a unity within the committee that only the Lord can bring.
· Pray for additional names to be given for consideration. We have received several resumes but have not felt lead toward any specific one as God’s choice.
· In your praying the Lord may impress on your heart a person to suggest to the committee. If so, contact me or any members of the committee with their name and contact information.
· Pray for the Personnel Committee by name: The members are:
Kenneth Reece Jan Trainham
Brad Tackett Phillip Slagle
Ann Cole Jim Broyles
Kay McCall
Another matter of prayer this week is our mission team to Montana who will be flying out on Wednesday, July 15. They are going to Poplar, Montana to work with the Sioux and Assiniboine Indian tribes on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation. The team will be working at a large Native American Pow-Wow, distributing water, working in a ministry booth, and witnessing to the people. Pray for the team members:
Brad Millicent
Melody Katie
Brooke Gracie
Joe Paul Phillip
Erin Marty

Continue to pray for Sue Franklin this week in her special time of need.
Have a blessed week and I encourage you to be “On Mission” for the Lord this week wherever you may be going. There are people all around us who need to know the love and compassion of Jesus.
Bro. Tim
Here’s the news of the week:
1. This Sunday, July 19, Mike Womack will be preaching in both morning services. Mike is the Youth Pastor at First Baptist Church in Monterey and lead us in the Youth ReFuel ’09. I appreciate Mike filling in for me while I am away.
2. I also appreciate Jim Broyles leading the Bible Study this Wednesday night.
3. All youth are reminded and invited to the July Youth Connect this Saturday, July 18 at Defeated Creek. Activities will begin around 2:00 PM at campground site #91. Jan Trainham will meet with the youth at the pavilion outside the campground at 2:00 PM. There will be swimming and boating as well as a picnic supper around 6:00 PM. The event will conclude around 8:00 PM.
4. Plans are being made for the FBC Carthage booth at the Smith County Fair, July 27-August 1. This is our opportunity to join together and minister to the community. You are needed to participate during at least one of the evenings from 5:30-8:30 PM. Let me know which day will be best for you. We will be distributing water, making balloon animals, painting faces, and ministering to the community.
5. There will be no evening activities next Sunday, July 19. The Church Council met yesterday and made the decision to cancel the Super Summer Sunday Night event for that one week. We will meet the following Sunday, July 26 at 5:30 PM at the City Park for our church picnic and a softball game.
6. Sunday, August 2 will be the first night of AWANA’S for the new year. All parents are encouraged to put this on your calendar. AWANA’S meet at 5:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall and are for children ages four through youth in 12th grade. Please note that this year a new class will be offered for the youth, grades 7-12. If you are unfamiliar with AWANA’S you can check out their web site at: http://www.awana.org/about/
There are still several positions remaining for workers in AWANA’s. To volunteer, contact John Etheridge or call the church office. There will be a worker’s training on Saturday, August 1 from 10 AM to 2 PM in the Family Life Center.
7. A special Baptismal Service will be held on Sunday, August 2 at 2 :30 PM at Plunkett’s Creek for two people from FBC Carthage who have asked to be baptized in the creek. Everyone is invited to come out for this special service. If you have accepted the Lord Jesus Christ but not yet followed in baptism, this special baptism service is also available for you. Contact me by phone at the church office 735-1929, by e-mail, or see me Sunday.
