October 20, 2008

It’s a great morning for a road trip!

Today I begin my two week journey to visit the five college campuses in Tennessee which our students are attending. Today and tomorrow I will travel to East Tennessee State and the University of Tennessee. Next week I will be at Tennessee Tech, Middle Tennessee State and Union University. I believe it is important to say to our college students, “You are important to us and we haven’t forgotten you.” Pray for safety and a good response from the students. Here is my schedule for your students:
Mon, Oct 20 5PM ETSU The Red Pig
Tues, Oct 21 12 Noon UT The Copper Cellar
Mon, Oct 27 5PM TTU Momma Rosa’s
Tues, Oct 28 5PM MTSU Olive Garden
Thur, Oct 30 12 Noon Union Moe’s

The Defeated Campground Service was great with several from First Baptist and the campground in attendance. Thanks Jim for the music and ladies for the refreshments.

Thank you to all who wished me well on Pastor Appreciation Sunday. I am honored to be your Pastor and look forward to serving the Lord together with you. The meal was delicious and the picture of the church was beautiful. I will treasure it and remember your kindness each time I see it.

This week I encourage you to spend some time with your spouse, children, parents, and those close to you. Your love dare is to express your love through spending quality time and reaching out and touching others in appropriate ways. “They will know we are Christians by our love.”

Have a blessed week as you share the love of Jesus with those around you.

Your Pastor,
Bro. Tim

Here’s the news for the week:
1. A reminder to all adults 55 and over, we will have a potluck luncheon on Wednesday, October 22 to discuss plans for a Senior Adult Ministry at First Baptist Church. We will also share details of opportunities to serve and travel together. We have made preliminary plans to go to the Help Center to serve on November 5 at 12 Noon and to travel to the Cumberland County Playhouse in Crossville on Friday, November 14. Bring a covered dish and invite a friend to join with us as we begin this new ministry.

2. Pack those shoe boxes. The collection date for the Operation Christmas Child is Sunday, November 2. For information on packing your shoe box go to
http://www.samaritanspurse.org/index.php/OCC/Pack_A_Shoe_Box/

3. Sunday night, October 26 we are in for a treat as Harp Strings, a harp ensemble featuring our own Cindy Dowell, will play a concert of praise to the Lord. The service begins at 5:30 PM and I urge you to attend. In fact, I urge you to invite someone to attend with you. It will be a great service.

4. Prayer for America. A special Day of Prayer for America will be observed on Monday, November 3. Everyone is asked to spend additional time in prayer for our country as we prepare to go to polls and elect the next President. A Prayer Service will be held at 12 Noon in the Sanctuary for everyone who would like to take their lunch hour to pray. The hope for our nation lies in the hands of God. Let us come before Him, humble ourselves, pray and turn from our wicked ways. 2 Chronicles 7:14 says as we do, He will hear from Heaven and forgive our sins and heal our land.

5. Last Wednesday in the adult Bible study we were each given a kernel of corn and asked to reflect on Jesus’ response in John 12:23-33. The question we are considering is what ways the analogy of a seed reveals Jesus life, death, resurrection and mission. You may also want to consider the analogy of a seed to the Christian believer’s life and ministry. I believe we will see several awesome truths through a simple kernel of corn this Wednesday. Join us at 6:30 PM in Fellowship Hall. Better yet, join us for dinner at 5:30 PM and enjoy a delicious meal and delightful fellowship around the tables.
