FBC Carthage E-News for October 13, 2008

FBC Carthage E-News
October 13, 2008

Good Morning,

It is great to be back in Tennessee after a fantastic week on the beach in sunny Florida. There is no better place for a Fall Break vacation for my family than a Florida beach in October. We had great weather and a wonderful time of relaxation. It was a great week but I am glad to be back home. Sara may not share my enthusiasm as she had to start back to school this morning but I am always glad to be back after a great trip.

A special thanks to Jim Wilburn and Brad Tackett for preaching on Sunday night and Wednesday night while I was away.

We had 21 attend the Couples Night Out trip to the Roxy in Lebanon to see “Fireproof.” I believe everyone who saw this movie would highly recommend it, especially to married couples. Christian principles are shared throughout the movie concerning love, marriage, commitment, and the need for Jesus Christ in each person’s life. Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia is to be commended for their vision and investment in the lives of people across this nation through this film. I encourage you to go and see it. If you go to the Roxy in Lebanon ask for the special for First Baptist Church Carthage which is the movie ticket, small popcorn and small soft drink for $7.50. I believe they will extend the special if you will ask.

This month we will continue to focus on the importance of expressing love to others and this week the “love dare” is to speak kind, loving words of affirmation to family, friends, and those you come in contact. The passage for the week is
Ephesians 4:29 which states, “ Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.” Already I have had reports of people taking the challenge and the difference that others have seen and heard. If you missed yesterday’s message I hope to have it on the web site later today. Take a few minutes to listen then live out the “love dare” this week through words of affirmation.

Have a blessed week and share the love of Jesus with those you meet.

Bro. Tim

Here’s the news for this week:
1. Yesterday, the Church Council meet and discussed the two services held on September 28. There were many favorable opinions on the two services and after a lengthy discussion the council recommended we offer two services during the upcoming holiday season beginning November 23 through the end of the year. The main reasons discussed were:
· The need for more seating during the Thanksgiving and Christmas services.
· The opportunity during this time to invite family, friends and neighbors to attend.
· The increased openness of people to attend during the Christmas season.
The schedule will be adjusted slightly and the first service will begin at 8:00 AM. This will allow more time for the transition to Sunday School at 9:30 AM followed by the second service at 10:45 AM. As time draws nearer we will share more details for the Thanksgiving and Christmas Services.

2. This Sunday, October 19 will be an exciting and full day. We will be leading the Campground service at Defeated Creek at 8:30 AM. Everyone is invited to come out to share in this service with the campers. If you would like to bring a breakfast treat contact Rita Shiverdecker or Deborah in the church office at 735-1929. We will be finished around 9:00 AM to allow time to get back to Sunday School and worship service. Following the worship service we will have a covered dish lunch for everyone in the fellowship hall. The New Salem Baptist Association meeting then begins at 3:00 PM at First Baptist Gordonsville. Everyone is invited to join with the ten churches of the Association as we meet, sing, preach, and pray. Supper will be held at 5:30 PM and the evening service at 6:30 PM. We will move all of our evening services to the Associational meeting.

3. Attention all adults 55 and over, we will have a potluck luncheon on Wednesday, October 22 to discuss plans for a Senior Adult Ministry at First Baptist Church. We will also share details of opportunities to serve and travel together. We have made preliminary plans to go to the Help Center to serve on November 5 at 12 Noon and to travel to the Cumberland County Playhouse in Crossville on Friday, November 14. Bring a covered dish and invite a friend to join with us as we begin this new ministry.

4. The 2nd Annual Chili Cook-off will be held on Saturday, October 18 from 2-6 PM at the Ag Center. This is sponsored by Campus Life which is a community-wide Christian youth group that meets on Monday evenings at 6:59 PM at the Methodist Church. There will be entertainment, face painting, chili, barbecue and a silent auction. This is the main fund-raiser for Campus Life and everyone is invited and encouraged to attend.
