FBC Carthage E-News
October 27, 2008

Good Morning,

It’s another beautiful fall day in Carthage, Tennessee. As October comes to a close this week it is hard to imagine how quickly the year is passing. Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner. With the holidays come a great opportunity to invite your friends, family and neighbors to church. Beginning Sunday, November 23 we will add a n 8:00 AM service to provide additional space for visitors. People will come with you to First Baptist if you will invite them. Thanksgiving and Christmas 2008 is going to be a great time of worship and praise to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Last week I had two great visits with the students from East Tennessee State University and the University of Tennessee. I will place the pictures of my college road trip on the church web site under the
News page. This week I will be meeting with students for the following schools:
Tennessee Tech Monday, October 27 5:00 PM
Momma Rosa’s Restaurant @ 200 South Lowe Ave

Middle Tennessee State Tuesday, October 28 5:30 PM
Olive Garden Restaurant @ 1710 Old Fort Pkwy

Union University Thursday, October 30 12:00 Noon
Moe’s Restaurant @ 1923 Emporium Dr

The Harp Ensemble, Heart Strings were a great blessing on Sunday night. A special thanks to Cindy Dowell for arranging for this group to come and lead in our worship.

Congratulations to John Etheridge, our Awana Director for completion of the National Awana Training. We are blessed to have many dedicated workers in the Awana program on Sunday nights at 5:30 PM. If your child is not enrolled this Sunday would be a great time to bring them. Registration is in the Fellowship Hall.

We have seen much progress on the house since I last gave a report. The contractors are doing the finishing touches and we are painting and laying tile. We are on track for a Christmas Open House on Sunday, December 14 from 2-4PM. I will give more details later but I hope you can come by and visit us in our home for Christmas.

Have a blessed week.
Bro. Tim

Here’s the news:
1. With the Smith County High School football game being on Thursday, October 30 this week, we will NOT have a 5th Quarter after the game. As parents, we felt it would not be right to have an event that kept the students out so late on a school night.

2. All women and girls are invited to Mugs and Muffins, a special brunch this Saturday, November 1 at 10:00 AM in the Christian Life Center. This will be a good opportunity to get to know the ladies of the church and enjoy the fellowship together.

3. This weekend, November 1-2 is Time Change – Fall Back. I encourage you to move your clocks back on Saturday afternoon or evening to get use to the new time before Sunday morning.

4. Remember to bring your Operation Christmas Child boxes to church this Sunday, November 2. We will place them on the alter and have a special prayer of dedication over them in the morning service. For information on packing your box click on
http://www.samaritanspurse.org/index.php/OCC/Pack_A_Shoe_Box/.

5. We will be holding the Defeated Campground services for the final two Sundays, November 2 & 9 at 8:30 AM. Thanks to those who help each week with the refreshments.

6. Next Tuesday, November 4 is the long awaited (and glad to be over) Presidential election. I ask you to do two things. First I ask everyone to vote. Voting is a responsibility of every American and we do not need to take that responsibility lightly. Study the issues, learn about the candidates, go to the polls, and vote. If you are unable to vote next Tuesday, early voting is being held each day at the Turner Building through October 30. The second thing I ask you to do is pray. Pray for America. Pray for the candidates. Pray for the Lord to heal our nation. We will have a Day of Prayer on Monday, November 3 from 10 AM – 2 PM in the Sanctuary at First Baptist. At 12 Noon there will be a 30 minute prayer service. Take your lunch hour and join us for this Day of Prayer for America.

7. This Sunday night, November 2 we will have observe the Lord’s Supper in the 5:30 PM service.

8. The Senior Adult Ministry had a great start last week with 14 present for lunch and our initial meeting. After the meeting we went to the Smith County Museum. In November the Senior Adults will work at the Help Center on Wednesday, November 5 at 9:30 AM and 1:00 PM. Also, a trip is planned to the Cumberland County Playhouse in Crossville on Friday, November 14 to see the play,
Crowns. For more information contact the church office or see Carol Wilmore. For information on the play click on http://www.ccplayhouse.com/static/pr_crowns.html.

9. The Church Council and Deacons are reminded of the regular monthly meetings this Sunday, November 2 at 4:00 & 4:45 PM.
